Reference the list off CommandCast The Command Zone Athreos, God of Passage Deck Tech but I tweak it a little. I am one of their fans and their decklist inspired me to build an Athreos deck of my own.
For the original list check out their deck list: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/shadowborn-apostle-athreos-deck/
or their youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6Lh_TCRcT0
testing this deck build atm.
Hi, welcome to my deck tech. I will be doing a breakdown on my deck. DISCLAIMER: "I watched and read many other people deck tech before I eventually came up with this so it may not be that original."
You can only include 100cards in this format, I picked the ones that are more relevant to my synergy. I shall skip the explanation of lands, kill/removal spells, mana ramp and card draw in this deck as it pretty much straightforward.
I will skip the explanation of this decklist since its reference of someone list. For an in-depth explanation of the deck, check out The Command Zone youtube channel, link above. From here onwards, I will only be explaining things that I tweaked.
1st (Winning with a Contract): Liliana's Contract. Since Shadowborn Apostles allows you to tutor for demons, packing Liliana's Contract allows you to win the game during your next upkeep if you control 4 or more demons with different names on the battlefield. I run 6 demons including Westvale Abbey
just to be sure in case any demons get exile or put into the graveyard.
2nd (Flooding with 2/2 zombie tourist): Xathrid Necromancer + Shadowborn Apostle. Whenever your shadowborn apostle dies, you get a 2/2 zombie coming into the battlefield tapped. A good way to have an insurance policy on the board.
3rd (Backup plan): Elixir of Immortality. If you do not have Athreos, God of Passage on the battlefield, your dying creatures won't have the option to return to your hand or if your opponent decides to pay life to make each of your dying creatures goes to the graveyard, having them get shuffle all into your library can be really great because Elixir of Immortality can be played many times as long as you are able to draw it.
For your info: I do not run Thrumming Stone / Phyrexian Altar / Cabal Coffers / Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth or any of those expensive tutors because I am trying to make this deck slightly cheaper. If you have the money to spend, definitely Phyrexian Altar is a must include as there is a loop combo with Shadowborn Apostle if you do it right.
All suggestions are welcome. Thanks for reading and have a great week ahead.
