ATHREOS, GOD OF PASSAGE

Athreos, does what he does best; Death & Taxes

The God of Passage.

Being the God of Passage, Athreos deals with life, and death. Wether or not a creature goes to the graveyard is partially your choice, and a 3rd parties choice. Athreos, God of Passage is a great commander, in 1v1 and multiplayer games. Coming out turn 3 every game is ridiculous. Bringing out low drops that are expendable, and the more of your creatures that die, the better.

Politics

Having choice is huge with Athreos. First you get to pick which opponent will either pay 3 life, or allow you to have that creature back to your hand. Now this gets interesting when you need a specific card back. There are 2 options-

1. Politic-Get political with your decisions. Make an alliance with someone for a turn, to get certain creatures back to your hand.
2. Target opponent with the lowest life. This is self explanatory, if someone is low on life, they won't be to keen on paying 3 life per creature.

Death

Creatures dying is beneficial for Athreos, draining your opponent(s) for life. Some fun interactions are Blood Artist and Damnation / Wrath of God to not only clean the field, but Blood Artist will drain life, in addition to Athreos's triggers for each of your creatures dying.

Taxes

So many things go in here; I tried to tax opponents for just about anything. Either by paying extra Mana, or life to do stuff.

1. Attacking you. Ghostly Prison , Koskun Falls , Norn's Annex , Sphere of Safety are all enchantments that tax to attack. Windborn Muse , and Archangel of Tithes are creatures that tax to attack. 2.Casting Spells. Chancellor of the Annex counters spells if they don't pay an extra 1, and Spelltithe Enforcer forces them to sacrifice a permanent.
   

Deterrents

Making your opponents NOT wanting to attack you. No Mercy is a life saver. Unless they're prepared to have each creature that deals damage to you destroyed, they won't swing. Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker is also another really good deterrent. High Priest of Penance works well. And Lightmine Field stops token decks from slaughtering you.
