Sideboard

Enchantment (2)

Sorcery (2)

A deck built around Spellheart Chimera

BURN Removal, and to quickly win late game.

CREATURES They come in handy sometimes.

UTILITY SPELLS Draw power and protection.

COUNTER SPELLS

  • 4 Dissolve because this deck won't survive without lots of counterspell power, and Dissolve is a catch all counterspell that also has a relevant ability.

-2 Mana Leak This is great for a quick turn 2 counterspell, IMHO better than Remand .

-4 Essence Scatter In a format as creature heavy as modern is, it is rare that I don't use this turn two.

-2 Spell Snare I've found it to be great for Young Pyromancer, Tarmogoyf, Negate...etc. For 1 mana!

BURN SPELLS

-2 Magma Jet for those tough times when you can't find your Chimera.

-4 Lightning Bolt No explanation neccesary.

CREATURES

-4 Spellheart Chimera , a flying trample */3 which easily becomes an 8/3 midgame for only 3 mana. This card is a beast and when you are paired against Mill, they might as well stop trying.

-2 Young Pyromancer this guy bleeds 1/1 chump blockers that can quickly end a game if left unattended, they can trade with aggro, and even be attached to a Runechanter's Pike to become a mini first-striking Spellheart Chimera .

UTILITY SPELLS

-4 Izzet Charm It's versatile, if I need it, I can have an easy Faithless Looting, or a Shock, or Spell Pierce for 2 mana. Very good card.

-3 Steam Augury a spell that lets me play a mind game with my opponent, draw valuable cards, and put some spells into my graveyard for my Chimera? Yes please.

-3 Clout of the Dominus despite this card being an enchantment, after testing, I found that I need this card against any kind of removal, especially U/B control. All of my creatures die super easily to removal, but for one mana, I can give my Chimera haste, shroud, and 5 toughness, so he, even without any cards in my graveyard can still be a beast. It also makes my Weird a 3/3 who can get even bigger really fast, and if I manage to attach this and a pike to my Chimera, there is no stopping a 12/5 (usually at least 6 spells in graveyard mid game) first strike, flying, trample, haste, shroud creature costing a total of 6 mana(excluding the equipping cost of the pike) who shits all over the new Dragonlords who cost 7.

Sideboard

-2 Swerve This card is only for control/burn/removal decks, the idea is to take their counterspell or Lightning Bolt, or uncounterable Abrupt Decay and surprise them by slamming their removal right back at them.

-3 Counterflux for storm and control

-4 Electrickery for aggro and tokens

-2 Roast another spell likeSpite of Mogis but it is much better for the earlier game.

-2 Negate for control

-2 Spite of Mogis as a way of easily dealing with Temur ramp decks. (Have you seen Thunderbreak Regent , he is insane!)

OVERALL STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES

After extensive testing I've found that this deck does very well against removal, burn, midrange, and combo strategies. However, without sideboarding, this deck is extreemly poor against decks more dedicated to control and very fast aggro decks. The way to combat this is simply by sideboarding in spells that specifically stop them, like Electrickery , Counterflux, and Negate.

Suggestions are very welcome. But please explain your reasoning.
