Messing with my random deck theme tool, and got this:

modern mono-black tribal aggro-control

Opted for Humans with a sprinkle of Avatar of Woe. Wanted to make as many dead creatures as possible, so opted for the destroy flavor of control . . . means assassins and clerics and destroy spells.

Once the board clears over time (with the assassins and clerics) or all at once with Finale, drop the Avatar and finish everything off.

Vampiric Link works for either life gain or creature control.
