The other day while I was playing a game with a friend, I wistfully mentioned my love for Ball Lightning. He disagreed, claiming it was only good when you're already winning because it "doesn't change the board state."

This deck is my answer to that claim. It usually burns the opponent or, in the case of a combo deck, the opponent's creatures until turn 3 or four. Optimally, it's a Mimic Vat turn 3 and a ball lightning turn 4 and then a ball lightening every turn after.

Assault Strobe makes a ball lightning into a double ball lightning. Brute Force, Assault Strobe and Ball Lightning is a slick, game ending, 5 mana hand.

Flamekin Harbinger and Mimic Vat makes a turn 4, 10/2 repeatable Nova Chaser a not too uncommon occurrence.

No matter what, the deck is pretty finely tuned to just work. I'm boarding in 4x Fling to help against decks that punish creature attacks and burn creature removal with things like the Phyrexian Obliterator.

The only bad hand is a bunch of land, Brute Force and Assault Strobes, but that's pretty rare as I dropped the number of creature buffs down to 6.
