Let me just start with the basic assumption of this deck; As Foretold is Great. That, and that with the titular card, Alchemist's Refuge can make it straight up bonkers if left to sit for a few turns.
The deck's CMC must stay pretty low in order to maximize the free spells it's getting, and I've tried to do that here, while also including some of my "pet" cards Whisperwood Elemental, and the interaction between Vesuvan Shapeshifter and Brine Elemental. These morph-related cards were what made me examine As Foretold more closely (no you can't morph for free, sadly) but what really brought me in was the powerful interaction of making sorcery speed actions castable with Flash, while not spending more than the activation cost to do so.
Card advantage is the name of the game here, countering an early spell then landing an As Foretold and going for broke with Ancestral Vision has won me games by itself. There is a small side facet of this deck as well, which makes me wonder whether I'm pulled in too many directions (as another friend who helped me build this pointed out). That third aspect is Life from the Loam plus the new cycling lands from AKH. They add to the card advantage that I'm building, and also help enable Delirium for me to search out the refuge, or any creature that I end up needing.
This is very much an in-progress sort of deck, and I appreciate any and all comments and feedback that I can soak up in order to decide on the best iteration possible. One caveat, I'm cool with comparisons with this deck and others, but please try and steer away from a "what is this doing that XYZ doesn't do better". This deck is fun for me to play, that's why.
