Was talking about playing a midrange deck in Bant for modern, because i wanted to play Sultai or Bant MR - Then i thought up of this beauty. Its not good or anything, just super cool!

Summary I have no idea if anybody else has thought up of this before - the idea is simple. Its got the Knightfall combo (Knight of the Reliquary and Retreat to Coralhelm) along with Hedron Crab, and Scapeshift to mill your opponent for lethal.

MAINBOARD

**

Land Base (26 Land)

This might seem like a high number of land, but this is a Scapeshift deck. Also, the more land I can get out of my deck and into my graveyard with the Knightfall combo, the bigger the Knight of the Reliquary will get and the more I will mill my opponent with Hedron Crab. As for the choices for the land, most of the land have the subtype Forest or Plains due to Knight of the Reliquary only being able to sacrifice Plains or Forests. The deck also runs a suprising 10 Fetchlands - which can be a bit of a non-combo synergy with Knight of the Reliquary. Ill decide after further testing if its worth it to drop the amount of these lands for more Hallowed Fountain's. At the moment, fetching with a Hedron Crab on the field is the better payoff for the fetchlands in my experience.

Creatures

4 Hedron Crab for the deck to form around in the early game, and also provides sufficient milling to back up with the rest of the deck using Scapeshift with Hedron Crab on the field.

3 Knight of the Reliquary as a part of the combo with Retreat to Coralhelm, and also to cycle lands onto the field to become a bigger threat or trigger Hedron Crab.

3 Noble Hierarch to help cast 3-drops such as Knight, Courser of Kruphix, sideboard cards, Retreat to Coralhelm.

2 Courser of Kruphix to help gain life, be a blocker, and also gain lots of life from Scapeshift or when you assemble the Knightfall combo.

Enchantments

3 Retreat to Coralhelm to combo with Knight of the Reliquary. Also, if you have a Noble Hierarch on the field and you cast Scapeshift you will get a bunch of Triggers from Retreat to Coralhelm, and you can untap the Hierarch to get an amount of mana equal to the number of lands collected from Scapeshift.

Instants

4 Archive Trap to help mill the opponent for big chunks. If your opponent searches their library from a Path to Exile you can punish them for searching.

4 Path to Exile as a good removal spell for the deck - You 'Could' exile an irrelevant creature on your board to get a land and mill your opponent for 3 if a Hedron Crab is on the field under your control.

3 Surgical Extraction as a necessary evil in mill decks for cards that decks such as Tron might run that shuffle back into their library, or even their whole graveyard into their library. Surgical also helps to removal counterplays against you after you figure out what they are. (Note to sideboard out if you bring in Rest in Peace unless you have to keep them in)

Sorceries

2 Eldritch Evolution to play as tutors to get Knight of the Reliquary, Courser of Kruphix or even if you sideboard in Geist of Saint Traft sacrificing your 1-drop CMC creatures such as Noble Hierarch or Hedron Crab.

3 Scapeshift to mill your opponent (with Hedron Crab), thin the deck, get your manland onto the field, make a big Knight of the Reliquary.

Artifacts

3 Elixir of Immortality for the lifegain, the shuffle lands back into your deck once they are in your bin to get more triggers from Hedron Crab.

Alright, I tested a game and this is how it went:

To basically summarise, I matched up against Black/Blue Mill. Glimpse the Unthinkable style of deck. I lost the first round to being completely outmatched in my main gameplan and him surgical extractioning away my elixir's, but i crushed him in the next two games with the Geist of Saint Traft I sideboarded in. I didn't need to Evolution into it because i had it naturally in my hand both games. Second game i tapped down his Jace's Phantasm's with my Retreat to Coralhelm triggers to my attacks could get in, and third game he couldnt stop me from elixiríng back 40 cards into my deck.

I never casted a scapeshift or managed to mill him out with a combo - but its good to know my deck can aggressively punish my opponent for not having suitable removal.
