Baral, The Sound of Silence

Commander / EDH

Dazered

Standard Baral control deck. Stop your opponent from playing stuff and win with either beat-down from tokens or laboratory Maniac.

This deck will use ward of bones to lock down your opponents by stealing lands and other items from them with Memanrch. Ward of bones helps slow the flow of spells being cast from your opponents helping you to create a poor board state for them also puts less strain on your counter spells. When Ward of Bones is in play allow non-optimal spells to resolve keeping your counters up for removals or really big threats.

For the most part I never counter draw spells, unless it's consecrated sphinx. You don't really care how many cards are in your opponent's hand, but you do care about what is on the field. The difference between 2 and 6 cards in hand isn't that great because the opponent maybe trying to get you to counter that draw spell so they can play a removal card or a huge threat. Note: If your opponent would have 0 cards in hand after casting a draw spell still counter that of course.

Similarly, during the late game, I don't counter mana doublers since at that point most people have enough lands to cast a lot of spells and being conservative with your finite spells in a multiplayer game is important. Additionally, your opponent's ramp increases the value of each counter spell in your deck. No matter how much mana your opponent's spell is your counter spells will almost always cost the same (roughly two blue).

If you want to increase this decks nastiness include a telepathy in the deck list. I still want to play in pods at my flgs so I don't.
