Birthing Pod Deck

This is my BUG Birthing Pod deck. Birthing Pod is such an amazing card because of the amount of options it provides when podding through creatures. It allows you to adapt to so many different situations. Here is the gist of what this deck is supposed to do...

Being centered around a Birthing Pod, when the Birthing Pod happens to be absent, this deck can get out rather slow without quick mana production. Birds of Paradise, Llanowar Elves , and Palladium Myr quicken things up a lot. Viridian Emissary also provides a good combo with Birthing Pod getting mana out early.

Other than mana, my lower drops also provide good support on the battlefield. Glissa, the Traitor, provides reliable defense and a way to get Birthing Pod and/or other artifact creatures back. Phantasmol Image works really well with Birthing Pod because I can sacrifice a one drop into a copy of any creature on the battlefield. I can also sacrifice a two drop to Birthing Pod straight into Skaab Ruinator. Enough said about that combo...

Because of the Birthing Pod, the deck cycles through a lot a creatures. Entomber Exarch is very useful to pod into as it offers a way to bring back my earlier drops. It also provides a way to reobtain my larger drops, more importantly Sheoldred, Whispering One, if they end up getting destroyed.

When ramping up to my larger drops it is important that my cards can make a reasonable impact if they are out for only one turn. The five drops, Precursor Golem and Acidic Slime, give the option of either more creatures or more control, respectively.

For my six drops, Massacre Wurm allows me to sweep the field of smaller creatures. Reaper from the Abyss is very helpful option through podding because its Morbid ability gets activated at the end of the turn and allows me to take out the opponent's bigger creatures. Wurmcoil Engine is helpful through podding because it provides a way to gain life and it can leave behind two creatures when sacrificed.

Sheoldred, Whispering One is what I ultimately plan to pod up to, although it is not always necessary. It works well with the Birthing Pod because every turn it brings creatures back to the battlefield from my graveyard.

For creature control I have put in Dismember, Go for the Throat, and, in my sideboard, Turn to Frog . As a potential field sweeper, I also have Black Sun's Zenith.
