Creature (4)

Enchantment (1)

My very first real Magic the Gathering deck, which my cousin helped build for me back when I was younger.

It's original state didn't have as many choices, mainly grabbing cards from Mercadian Masques, which came out around when I first joined, and prior.

At the time cards like Specter's Wail and Coercion seemed like good cards to me but those fell out of favor as I discovered the power of Hymn to Tourach. Megrim The original splashing of blue had to do with Capsize, Fod Bank, Avatar of Will and Zuran Enchanter. Megrim also seemed to be a great card to me at the time... little did I know... Pretty much all the aforementioned cards have fallen by the wayside aside from Hymn to Tourach and Avatar of Will.

Some of my original pieces are still here. Capsize, Dark Ritual, Funeral Charm, Hymn to Tourach and Duress are still pieces going strong.

When I first got back into Magic the Gathering one of my first pulls happened to be Liliana Vess, who quickly found her way into my deck. I then discovered Ravenous Rats from playing Duels of the Planeswalkers with a friend and added them in. Inquisition of Kozilek is probably my favorite discard card from looking at an opponent's hand at the moment, especially with the running price of Thoughtseize.

With the need for creatures I decided to add Creeping Tar Pit, which really helps to push in damage when I don't have my enchantments out to help.

Ultimately Liliana's Caress and Megrim fell out of favor for Quest for the Nihil Stone and Painful Quandary, and eventually those fell out of favor when I discovered the oldie The Rack. Augur of Skulls rounds out my creature base while Doom Blades replaced my old Dark Banishings to offer myself some removal.

My sideboard includes Duress for dealing with decks that don't push creatures as much, Drudge Skeletons for fast aggro decks, Leyline of the Void to deal with graveyard based decks, and Vapor Snag in case I need the extra bounce.

I have debated going mono-black, especially with blue becoming less and less prominent in my deck over time. But for the time being I'm content with where the deck is.

Updates Add

Since I feel like I'm in dire need of more cards to deal damage outside of The Rack I decided to pick up a couple of Nezumi Shortfang  Flip to provide card discard and damage once the opponent falls into topdeck mode. Let's hope they work out well for me.
