Welcome, Warriors of Mardu. This is my idea on what is Mardu is all about. I will be naming each card and why it is in here. Comments and suggestions are appreciated.
CREATURES:
Ankle Shanker: An quite high casting card, but also incredibly useful for getting around huge creatures. Begone Heroes' Bane!
Bloodsoaked Champion: incredibly good one-drop warriors that can be used as bait for Butcher of the Horde and then be revived again.
Butcher of the Horde: A demon that can gain vigilance, lifelink and haste. Sacrifice Bloodsoaked Champion and the goblin tokens from
Mardu Ascendancy
to get all three!
Chief of the Edge
: a two drop that boosts the power of
Chief of the Scale
and Bloodsoaked Champion. Play more than one so that they boost their own power.
Chief of the Scale
: Pretty much the same mechanics as
Chief of the Edge
, but instead of power it boosts toughness.
Goblin Rabblemaster: there's a reason he's almost 15 dollars on the market. He's fantastic in an aggro deck like this.
Jeering Instigator: I used to think this card was pretty lame until I got beat by it. This card wrecks games Nothing is safe except cards with hexproof. You will wipe the smile off the opponent's face and replace it with tears, which you proceed to put in a bottle and dump it over his/her deck (or the person depending on how annoying he/she is).
Wingmate Roc: a solid flier, that can make another flier, plus it pretty much has path of bravery for an ability except a bit harder to activate. A pretty good mythic.
And Finally...THE BOSS
Zurgo Helmsmasher: Where do I start. This is the record holder for the standard creature that has broken the most friendships (board wipes and Sorin break more). It is five land. For A 7/2 haste and indestructible (on your turn) that gets counters for killing stuff. The only way to stop him is to kill him with aggro before he becomes to huge or exile him. the thing is, with chief of the scale buffing his toughness, aggro is useless. You have to exile him. And unless you're playing white, you can't really do that. He is the definition of aggressive. He is FRIGGIN AWESOME. Try and stop him.
NONCREATURE SPELLS:
Howl of the Horde
: play this with any instant or in this deck and the results are awesome. Even with a lightning strike it's an incredibly good combo.
Crackling Doom
: This is a great card. Opponents can't do much but counter and this card can turn the tables completely for some games
Utter End Because when something is so damn annoying, use this.
Lightning Strike: underrated card if you ask me. It's no Lightning Bolt but it's able to kill their creatures or get some early damage in.
Mardu Ascendancy
: Why not? It gets a whole bunch of tokens out and if they use something like Polymorphist's Jest, I'll be able to get around it because my 1/1 frogs will turn into 1/4 frogs. So some of them might not die and that's always a bonus.
Magma Jet: recently put it in instead of searing blood. Is a much better card because of the scry bonus.
Sorin, Solemn Visitor: God I love this card. I only hate it when it's used against me. This is one of the best myths I have ever seen (I've only been playing since Theros came out though so that's not saying much). His +1 gives me more life, his -2 isn't the best, but it's decent. His -6 is great. It rips games apart. It breaks friendships more than Zurgo does. HE IS AWESOME.
SIDEBOARD:
Utter End: See description above.
Soldier of the Pantheon: Is a very good card. would put in main but is not as aggressive as Bloodsoaked Champion.
Thoughtseize: Awesome Discarding card. plus this deck is partly life gain so losing life isn't much of a big deal.
Searing Blood: Better version of lightning strike.
Howl of the Horde
: Same reason as Thoughtseize, different area of strength.
Despise
Same thing as Thoughtseize but more limited and no lifeless
So that's my summary on this deck. Again, comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks
