Blue Ones, a.k.a. Sky Hussies

Converting Greg Hatch's Mono-blue Martyr to Modern!

The goal is to disrupt our opponent's game using the soft counter creatures: Judge's Familiar, Mausoleum Wanderer, Martyr of Frost, and Spiketail Hatchling. Aether Vial helps us power these creatures out and hold up mana for Mana Leak or Martyr of Frost. Dies to Chalice of the Void on 1 unless we already have a Vial out.

Meanwhile, we are gaining card advantage off our draw engines, Ninja of the Deep Hours, and Sky Hussar. This let's us generate a lot of chumpers while continuing to draw cards and keep our opponents off spells.

Finally, we have a quasi combo finish with Grand Architect to make our flyers larger and potentially kill with beatdowns, OR to make a very large Walking Ballista to control the board, chaingun our opponent's creatures down, or just kill the opponent directly. Pili-Pala is an infinite mana combo with Grand Architect that also therefore gives us an infinite damage combo with Walking Ballista to still beat infinite mana decks.

Board Plan

Post board we further try to disrupt our opponents' game plans (Note: this analysis is done before playtesting, deck is very early draft):

Death's Shadow::

Red Deck::

  • Auriok Champion - Obviously, hoping that card draw and soft counters win out the game.

Eldrazi Tron::

Classic Urza Tron::

  • Spreading Seas - similar game plan as Eldrazi, but with less of a creature focus keep them off mana
  • Exhaustion - time walk after they've played a threat, give us time to draw cards/chumpers/counters
  • Hokori, Dust Drinker - keep them off mana long-term and beat them via Aether Vial

UW Control/Midrange::

Lantern ... may be unwinnable as we aren't boarding in any artifact hate. We do at least have a combo kill without attacking with Walking Ballista

Dredge::

UR Storm::

  • Exhaustion hopefully buys turns and turns on our soft counters enough to draw into our hard counters
  • Grafdigger's Cage makes them combo off only from their hand

Feedback much appreciated!
