Instants and sorceries used to counter, destroy or bounce crits, and keep crits alive. Creatures with high value keep you alive against other control decks. You can easily sub in board wipes such as launguish, Drown in Sorrow, whatever you want really. If you manage to get Cyclonic Rift off with overload, your opponents will usually concede. The Whip of Erebos is huge in keeping you afloat vs other midrange decks that outtempo you or decks that try to race you and it will keep most aggro decks at bay.
