I have been trying my best as a deckbuilder to find a good shell for both Ensoul Artifact and Chief Engineer , and I think I have found a home for both of these wacky cards. Master of Waves pairs well with both of them, and after adding a strong supporting cast I think this deck has potential to be a budget badass.

Fun Plays:

Use Rapid Hybridization on one of your Darksteel Citadel+Ensoul Artifact so you get a free Frog Lizard at Instant speed!

Sacrifice that turn 1 Glaring Spotlight to make your dudes hexproof and unblockable to push through that last bit of damage.

Use Disperse in response to anything targeting your Ensoul Artifact to return it to your hand, and then re-cast it on a Darksteel Citadel!

Turn 1 Island, Turn 2 Darksteel Citadel+Ensoul Artifact happens quite a bit, and is very hard for ANY deck to beat.

Updates Add

After a long, hard-fought 4 round tournament with this deck, I've learned a few things:

1) Bronze Sable is just bad, no matter how you slice it.
2) Not having a counter spell for my opponents sideboard [[golgari charm lost me the match against Jund Monsters.
3) I have an awesome matchup post-board against Control.

On to the rounds:

Round 1 vs. Hydration is Key

I gave my usual FNM deck to the shop owner's daughter, who is surprisingly astute and quick to learn different decks. She took my MGD (with a Chord of Calling cheat sheet) and beat me both games. I almost had her game 1, but for some awful reason I convoked in a Scuttling Doom Engine instead of hammering away with my 2 Indestructible 5/5's. I got cocky, cost me game 1, and game 2 she drowned me with her card advantage.

Round 2 vs. Jund Monsters

Oh man, I stole game 1 with 2 Darksteel Citadel made into 5/5's, and to cap it off I dropped a turn 4 Illusory Angel to answer his Stormbreath Dragon...Classic! Games 2 and 3 he had access to Golgari Charm, which won him both games single-handedly.

Round 3 vs. U/W Control

I hate Azorius Charm. Game 1 he has me scared to swing with my turn 2 5/5, and after getting him into top deck mode and chipping away at his life for about 10 turns, he finally drew the Sphinx's Revelation and pulled away from me. That card will win you the game almost every time. Game 2 was incredibly interesting and surprisingly great for me. If he didn't have 3 Brimaz, King of Oreskos in his sideboard he would have been demolished. In Game 2 I used Jace, the Living Guildpact ultimate 2 TIMES and sacrificed my Ratchet Bomb to blow up his Brimaz, King of Oreskos. In Game 3, he dropped a turn 3 Brimaz, King of Oreskos and used Detention Sphere on my 2 copies of Haunted Plate Mail and my Ratchet Bomb to win him the game.

This was quite the learning experience for me, having never piloted a 100% Homebrewed deck that has never been playtested against top competition. I took some advice from my friends, made some adjustments that I thought were necessary, and this is going to be my "Monday Night Deck" from now on!
