I just went 4-1, taking third place. My only loss was to another Boros deck that kept using Act of Treason on me. I didn't get any Boros Charms, but I'd take the two Firemane Avenger and one Spark Trooper that I got over a Boros Charm any day. My lucky pulls were definitely what carried me through the tournament, but there were matches that I won with commons alone.

Skyknight Legionnaire, Wojek Halberdiers, Warmind Infantry, and Madcap Skills were the most effective cards not named Firemane Avenger and Shock Trooper. And they're all commons.

For Uncommons, Sunhome Guildmage and Truefire Paladin were the uncommons I got. They were nice, but never matched impact that the commons listed above had.

As for matchups, I feel like Boros has a favorable matchup against all guilds except for Orzhov. Orzhov's defensive creatures make Boros' weenies less effective.
