Wondering if there really is a deck build that can build around the Mishra, Claimed by Gix
Phyrexian Dragon Engine
melding. Didn't think there was even though the merged Mishra, Lost to Phyrexia
would be super good.
But with OTJ it seems like Lively Dirge might be the only thing in standard that can setup the meld trick on curve. If you're missing the Mishra, Dirge can pull it out of your library into play on 5 mana. If you're missing the Engine, Dirge can put it into the graveyard on 3 mana, and then you can unearth it with haste on 5 mana.
If you have Mishra and Dirge in hand, you can Dirge the Engine into the graveyard turn 3, play Mishra on 4, unearth Engine on 5 and meld. That's pretty much the main way you want it to work.
Bitter Reunion can help give haste a turn early, and can help dig for a combo piece. Goldhound helps ramp from 1 to 3 which is the kind of acceleration that helps this combo unlike a Charming Scoundrel ramping from 2 to 4 which gets a bit more in the way. Goldhound also gives an extra mana to power the Reunion's haste on the combo curve. Into the Fire helps dig for combo pieces or can do a little bit of sweeper duty against weenies going wide early.
It looks like I can also wedge in the new hotness insta-death combo Bloodletter of Aclazotz Rush of Dread. Bloodletter and Mishra work together ok. Dirge is good at fetching the Bloodletter. Rush can do a bit of creature control.
(I put in 1 Mishra, Lost to Phyrexia
just for convenience for testing in the app because the deck editor doesn't make it easy to do the meld action. It's not really part of the deck as a separate card.)
