Lots of change and experimentation happening here to re-envision the list to be optimal in the Vancouver meta. Most of the description below is going to be deprecated.

All-in resource denial build leveraging Brago's ability to maintain access to artifact mana while land resources are tied up for everyone.

The main win condition is Strionic Resonator. Resonator + any mana rocks that sum up to two mana gives infinite Brago triggers. With that in place:

  • Any additional mana rock yields infinite mana
  • Any permanent that draws on etb allows arbitrary amount of card draw
  • Any manifest card allows manifestation of your whole deck
  • Any permanent with a good etb (Venser, Shaper Savant or any of the Rishadan clan) lets you remove all opponent permanents.
  • You can play stack games with Oblivion Ring and Parallax Tide to permanently exile opposing permanents.

Generally you'll Draw/Manifest your whole deck, destroy/bounce all opponent permanents, and give yourself an arbitrarily insurmountable board presence, playing any number of creatures and any amount of lock effects you want in order to seal the win.

General Tactics:

  • Brago can target himself for a pseudo-vigilance effect. This is crucial to the lockdown aspect of the game where you use Brago's ability to keep all your non-land permanents untapped, while everyone else is tapped out.
  • Brago's blinking ability dovetails with all kinds things in the deck. It resets Fading (Tangle Wire) and Cumulative Upkeep (Mystic Remora). It also allows planeswalkers to activate twice each turn and mana rocks to be used twice each turn (assuming they weren't locked down).
  • Manifested cards blinked by Brago come back face up (effectively free). If you blink Cloudform or Lightform each generates another manifest as it enters.
  • If you manifest an instant or sorcery, you can bounce it back to your hand with Man-o'-War, or Venser, Shaper Savant.
  • Expedition Map and Weathered Wayfarer help us work around the low land count and find Mishra's Workshop, Ancient Tomb, Cavern of Souls, or Strip Mine as the need may be.
  • Strip Mine is included almost solely to deal with Maze of Ith.
  • Tolaria West doesn't have to find land. Mana Crypt or Mox Opal are worthy targets given how they can be exploited by Brago's ability.
  • Rishadan Brigand , Rishadan Cutpurse , and Rishadan Footpad are incredible. With Brago, they're effectively an asymmetric Smokestack. Tremendous value.
  • Parallax Tide has a lot of utility. It can keep opponents' lands off the table so they can't cast anything or use non-mana abilities. It can also protect your own lands from Armageddon effects to make resource disparity even more pronounced.
  • Pithing Needle does lots of work targeting opponent planeswalkers, Hermit Druid, Arcum, Survival of the Fittest and more. 1 cmc makes it very reasonable to find and cast with our artifact tutor suite.
  • Cursed Totem is a Linvala stand in that is cheaper and tutorable in UW.
  • Aether Spellbomb is trusty 1 cmc artifact-oriented creature removal. Easy to look up and useful against those annoying early Elesh Norn drops.
