Planeswalker (1)

Whispering Waste is a multiplayer combo deck which aims to cast an early Waste Not followed by Whispering Madness . It can do this by turn 3, reliably by turn 5 and only rarely later. In a four player game, a turn 5 Whispering Madness should result in ~3 discards from each player and based on playtesting these would be 2 creature cards and 1 noncreature card. Waste Not would therefore generate 6 2/2 zombies and 3 card draws. Ideally, Whispering Madness would then be ciphered onto a cheap evasion creature who would swing for another full discard and Waste Not activation. The second hit would probably be slightly bigger than the first and would generate mana due to players discarding land cards that they drew from the first Whispering Madness. The win-con is overrunning the opponent with zombies or, if things get really silly, decking them.

CARDS BREAKDOWN

Combo

4 Waste Not

4 Whispering Madness

Tutoring/Card Draw

4 Disciple of Deceit

4 Springleaf Drum

4 Karametra's Favor

4 Bident of Thassa

The deck is almost exclusively 1,2, and 4 CMC spells, with an even distribution across the three CMCs for reliable tutoring. This means Disciple of Deceit + Karametra's Favor + Springleaf Drum allows you to tutor risk-free for Waste Not or Whispering Madness, greatly improving the combo's consistency. Disciple of Deceit is a great card drawing engine and allows for repeated tutoring of Waste Not or Whispering Madness to keep the ball rolling. Four Bident of Thassa are run so that even without a Disciple, the deck can draw lots of cards - via evasive weenies - in the hope of finding Waste Not and/or Whispering Madness. It also allows for stupid card draw once lots of zombies are in play.

Evasive Weenies

4 Judge's Familiar

2 Trition Shorestalker

1 Shipwreck Singer

Each creature can attack, activate Springleaf Drum or be targeted with Karametra's Favor . The Judge's Familiar provides minor protection against Duress and Thoughtseize or removal on Disciple of Deceit . With Bident of Thassa in play the weenies also provide a back up method for finding Waste Not and Whispering Madness.

Toolbox

1 Whelming Wave

1 King Macar, the Gold Cursed

1 Elixir of Immortality

1 Obelisk of Urd

1 Whip of Erebos

While Whelming Wave will obviously kill my zombies and set back my board, it's included to reset the board and buy time if needed. It's also devastating when following with a Whispering Madness. King Macar provides repeatable removal and is easy to activate: Karametra's Favor + King Macar, the Gold-Cursed + Springleaf Drum . Elixir of Immortality prevents me from decking myself and allows recycling of Whispering Madness. It also allows retrieval of toolbox cards that get discarded with Whispering Madness. Whip of Erebos provides some lifegain if my life gets dangerously low. Finally, while Obelisk of Urd can't be tutored I figured it would be helpful against Bile Blight and Drown in Sorrow.

THOUGHTS

There is no removal and very little protection in this deck. It is (ironically) vulnerable to early and/or persistent discard. I've tried to strengthen the deck against these threats by making it as fast as possible and including lots of card draw, so that even if key cards are removed or discardED, more can be found quickly.

Finally, I'm aware this deck will irredeemably cycle out of standard in 10 days time. My playing circle plan to continue playing Return to Ravnica/Theros standard for a while, so this deck (and any suggestions you make) will have some life in it yet!

Whispering Waste is based on another Waste Not deck published by OJLMethos. Thanks for the inspiration dude!
