Mainboard
This deck is a pretty typical sliver deck. The goal, for those who haven't seen one before, is to pump out slivers that buff each other and make the whole thing stronger. I'll explain a few key components, but the cards are fairly self-explanitory, so make sure to look at anything I didn't explain!
-Manaweft Sliver: This guy is crucial to this deck! It's ramping AND fixing in one. This deck is five colors, and needs all the fixing it can get (see Kodama's Reach and Chromatic Lantern) and this guy is one of the best. I'll have plenty of slivers to fall back on, and this guy can even tap for mana himself. He turns every sliver you have into a Birds of Paradise! Though he isn't as good in multiples as many slivers, his usefulness and low-cost (CMC and $$$) makes him a 4 include.
-
Crypt Sliver
: Board wipes like Supreme Verdict are the downfall of this deck.
Crypt Sliver
answers this! While I tap out all my creatures, every one of my slivers is kept safe, ready to swing back on the next turn. While Wrath of God is a weakness,
Crypt Sliver
is good enough, especially since it has useful combat interactions, to be a 3 include.
-Quick Sliver: At sorcery-speed, slivers are just too boring! I mean, who has time for this "summoning sickness" or "no combat surprises"? Ain't nobody got time fo dat! Imagine, someone swings with everything, and you flash in a Megantic Sliver! Though this won't happen with the sliver out, it puts the fear of God into your opponent, since they can't swing at you without worrying about what's in your hand. This guy sucks in multiples, though. 2 include.
-
Homing Sliver
: This deck will draw multiples of cards it doesn't need from one time to another.
Homing Sliver
helps fix this problem, while helping with this deck's consistency. He lets you swap out your crappy slivers for good ones, provides the right answers at the right time (
Saving Grasp
says it best). This guy isn't so bad in multiples, since he can just swap himself out! 3 include.
-Brood Sliver: If your slivers start connecting with this little guy out, you'll win the game. No, seriously.Your other slivers can pump this guy, give him useful abilities, and generally make life difficult for your opponent. Brood Sliver forces your opponent to make bad blocks. Otherwise... Say hello to my little friends!
-Chromatic Lantern This is arguably the best fixer a deck like this could have for under $100. It gives you perfect mana. That simple. As long as I have enough lands to pay the CMC, I can cast any creature in this deck. He even accelerates, so it's not so bad in multiples. Its cost prevents it from being a 4 include, so it's at 3. I'll probably add one in later.
Sideboarding
-Ghostflame Sliver: Color-hosers suck. In a deck with so many colors, they can create serious issues. Protection lets them block profitably, and I can't have that! This guy fixes that. I may very well need him against decks that run crappy amounts of protection (some of my friends in my playgroup do), so I feel that 4 is the right number.
-
Dementia Sliver
: This deck is pretty strong, but there are a few ways to deal with it. After game one, you'll know if your opponent is able to deal with it. With
Dementia Sliver
out, you can fish for anything that can be detrimental to your game. Ahem [Wrath of God]] Ahem
-
Hibernation Sliver
: Let's say you don't draw
Dementia Sliver
, but your opponent plays a Wrath of God or anything else that can really mess up your strategy.
Hibernation Sliver
will save your butt right then and there! Save all your best slivers, albeit at a cost of life, and play them again next turn! He gets bad in multiples, so I feel 2 is the right number.
-Telekinetic Sliver: Your opponent will likely have a permanent that will give you trouble, or be in the middle of casting one! Enter: Telekinetic Sliver as long as you have enough slivers to tap all their lands, Telekinetic Sliver is a Silence EVERY TURN! If it's already there, no fear. Just use a sliver to
Gideon's Lawkeeper
their permanents at no mana cost.
-
Hunter Sliver
: Royal Assassin angers me. Llanowar Elves are crucial to the deck they're in. How'd you like to get rid of them, and force blocks your opponent won't want?
Hunter Sliver
! I'm actually considering Maindecking this guy, so, if you have any advice on that, please, give it.
Note: This deck is not crazy expensive. Thus, the lack of Sliver Queen, Sliver Overlord, and Sliver Legion
