This deck is the first deck I have ever built from scratch and I am pleased to have it actually be decent.
I started with an idea of using a Primordial Hydra in order to continuously build up counters on my upkeep, but once I found out about Heroes' Bane in Journey Into Nyx I couldn't resist changing its focus, especially since now I didn't have to let my opponent take a turn before getting insane counters on it.
One of the hands I had in mind while making the deck was this:
This hand allows me to win on turn 5 using only these 7 cards:
Play a Forest.
Cast an Arbor Elf.
Play a Forest.
Enchant a Forest with Overgrowth.
Tap enchanted Forest to cast Omnath, Locus of Mana.
Untap enchanted Forest with Arbor Elf and tap both lands to save 4 mana for turn 4.
Tap out lands for +7 mana. (Total: 11)
Cast Heroes' Bane. (Total: 6)
Activate Heroes' Bane's ability making it an 8/8. (Total: 2)
Tap out land for another +7 mana. (Total: 9)
Activate Heroes' Bane's ability, making it 16/16. (Total: 5)
Cast Overwhelming Stampede and all of your creatures gain +16/+16 and Trample.
Attack for a total of 49 damage.
Now of course there are many different good combinations (as well as many bad ones) for this deck, but I thought that hand in particular was a very fun one.
Another one of my favourite combos is Heroes' Bane
+
Predator's Rapport
easily allowing me to gain potentially LOADS of life at instant speed, and is made even easier with an Arbor Elf + Overgrowth
/Omnath, Locus of Mana on the battlefield. Heroes' Bane can also provide a HUGE boost to get the winning attack with Heroes' Bane
+
Overwhelming Stampede
(Which I discovered while at a standstill playing against a friend's G/U Ramp deck I could deal over 30,000 damage to him in a single turn.)
The Maybeboard for this deck includes many cards I either plan to get still or excluded due to this still being a somewhat casual deck on a budget, I figured that about $35 wasn't too bad (~$25, if you exclude Omnath, Locus of Mana).
Cards I definitely plan on getting include
Quest for Renewal
, which I can easily activate by simply attacking with 4+ creatures in 1 turn, also allowing everything I attack with to untap during my opponent's untap step. The next card is Bear Umbra, which I may plan to replace Spider Umbra with, simply because honestly it helps a lot more in Ramp than Reach does.
Nissa, Worldwaker
I will definitely consider adding, depending on the price.
Leatherback Baloth
is another card that I would like to have somewhere too.
Anyways, now that my rant is over, I just want to say that even though I have only played a handful of games with this deck so far, I have found it to be tons of fun to play and even more fun to think of new combos to add to my deck. I appreciate any and all suggestions and I will definitely keep it in mind! (as long as it is relatively affordable of course.)
