Budget Paradox Sisay

Commander / EDH

scheerlc8520

This isn't meant to be a primer, but I cover the main (budget) Sisay combos that you will see, this deck is far from optimized, I would be happy to see some support for the deck with some suggestions on how to improve it within the budget.

My goal for this deck is to try to hit turn 4 wins within the budget of $250 not including the price of Mox Opal . Turn 4 wins should be possible and not too uncommon, but realistically turn 5 will be a consistent turn to win on, which is still pretty strong for a deck this budget. I tried keeping this fairly budget but still competitive, ill go through the loops I included further down.
  • Just a quick note though, Mox Opal is a necessity for this deck, its also ridiculously expensive so heres a link to a decent one you can print off ;) and while you're there, you could also print off a Mox Diamond or a couple fetches if you need a more advanced mana base https://www.mtgvault.com/astralninja/decks/breya-edh/proxy/

  • As of Feburary 27th, 2019 not including the Mox Opal the deck is decently under budget at $243.98

For both combo routes, there is a little bit of set up we must have first.

  1. Captain Sisay to tutor for Paradox Engine

Do not cast paradox engine until you have mana to enough mana to immediately follow it up! If you don't have a follow-up spell Dosan the Falling Leaf can be a better first tutor.

  1. Captain Sisay to tutor for Mox Amber

  2. Cast Mox Amber to trigger paradox, Captain Sisay to tutor for Mox Opal , Float from Mox Amber

  3. Cast Mox Opal to trigger paradox, Captain Sisay to tutor for Seton, Krosan Protector , Float from Mox Amber and Mox Opal

  4. Cast Seton, Krosan Protector to trigger Paradox Engine

Now we are setup for either of our combo lines. At this point, we can now grab Dosan the Falling Leaf , even though if we haven't seen interaction by now, there probably won't be any. However, better safe than sorry

  1. Captain Sisay to tutor for Bontu's Monument , cast it to trigger Paradox Engine

  2. Captain Sisay to tutor for Bow of Nylea , cast it to trigger Paradox Engine

  3. Float From Seton and the moxes, Captain Sisay to tutor for either Mikaeus, the Lunarch or Hope of Ghirapur , cast the one you tutored for to trigger Paradox Engine with the . This triggers our Bontu's Monument

While Mikaeus, the Lunarch just doesn't need to sacrifice himself, Hope of Ghirapur is fairly strong because we can use this under our own Ethersworn Canonist , or an opponents Canonist.

  1. With our remaining use the final ability on Bow of Nylea to shuffle our Mikaeus or Ghirapur into our deck

  2. Float From Seton and the moxes, Captain Sisay to tutor for either Mikaeus, the Lunarch or Hope of Ghirapur which we just put on the bottom of the library. We can repeat this process for infinite Bontu's Monument triggers

This is much less effective, we need to spend our Captain Sisay trigger looking for Inventors' Fair this has a couple of issues. We don't run Azusa, Lost but Seeking , so if we've already used our land-drop for the turn we will have to wait a turn cycle with all of our combo pieces sitting out. Sisay will also be tapped, so we will need to cast another additional spell this turn to untap her if we aren't waiting that turn cycle, these are why this method is so much less effective. Note that this is not infinite, but it is still very unlikely to fizzle.

  1. Captain Sisay to tutor for Inventors' Fair

  2. Now we need a total of 7 mana. we should have available thanks to Seton, Krosan Protector and our two moxes. We can get the last that we need by casting our low-cost legendaries and floating the extra mana. Our targets are Mikaeus, the Lunarch and Hope of Ghirapur

  3. Crack Inventors' Fair to find Thousand-Year Elixir , cast it to trigger Paradox Engine

  4. Captain Sisay to tutor for Selvala, Explorer Returned , cast it to trigger Paradox Engine , activate Selvala's Parley ability to force everyone to draw, you can then use any produced mana to untap Selvala using Elixir to activate her ability again.

  5. Captain Sisay to tutor for any Legend, floating all the mana possible, we want to play any spell to trigger Paradox Engine

with two draws, at least three mana, and a Sisay tutor per loop it should be very hard for us not to have a card to play for this to continue. Green Sun's Zenith prevents us from decking ourselves, eventually it will be the only card left in our deck and we will just continuously cast it until we've hand enough triggers to force our opponents to draw their decks

This is the point in the game where everything has gone wrong, Paradox engine is in the grave, we are drowing under our opponents stax pieces, we have officially ran out of gas. Now our goal to bring out as many stax pieces as possible to slow down everyone. At the same time we need to find Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite . The game plan is to pray the game is slowed enough that we can beatdown with our dorks and stax pieces and kill our opponents.

An addition to the deck if you wanted that pairs very well with this game plan is Living Plane or Kamahl, Fist of Krosa
