Enchantment (4)

Instant (2)

Maybeboard

The goal is to ramp, play some creatures which generate tokens, turn those creatures themselves into tokens, and play some enchantments that make copies of tokens.

Armada Wurm and Thragtusk are the primary targets to be copied. Note that we will be copying these cards directly, and not merely populating the tokens they spawn like most other Selesnya decks.

Cackling Counterpart lets me copy creatures directly, and Seance lets me bring copies of them back into play from the graveyard. Ordinarily, Seance isn't that great of a card, but if you use Parallel Lives or Growing Ranks with it, you get a permanent token copy of the creature (and its token-spawn). Either way, once you have a creature token which is a Armada Wurm or a Thragtusk, go to town populating that and benefit from soaring life total and free Beast and Wurm tokens.

So, that's the idea. This deck is brand new and not at all battle-hardened. I hope to end up with many scary creature tokens and high amounts of life gain, but we'll see.

I worry that the gimick won't be that effective and that I'd be better off just running big creatures and not trying to duplicate them like so many Selesnya decks out there. Everyone says that Parallel Lives is too expensive and doesn't do anything for you the turn it comes into play, and they say the same thing about Seance, and even Growing Ranks is sometimes viewed this way. I admit I actually don't like any of these three cards on their own, but with Cackling Counterpart and Thragtusk and Armada Wurm the combination seems to be working out well so far.

In the Maybeboard I'm acknowledging an alternate build. Clearly, flicker effects are terrific with the creatures I've selected, and I suspect that in order to be competitive I may need some Cloud Shift or something.

Although I thought this deck was an entirely original creation, once I was done I did discover several decks which also use Cackling Counterpart. Hat's off to Jarrheadd0 on his Cackling-Wurms build, to stoopkid on his Cackling Tokens. Also, a nod to Zandl's G/W Fat Stuff and to Not Him Again for the Garruk's Packleader and Cyclonic Rift ideas.
