Maybeboard

A "rack" deck that punishes any amount of cards in opponent's hands. This deck is named after some of the artifacts it FORMALLY ran: Skullcage, Paupers' Cage, and Misers' Cage. The original idea was to dump tons of punishing artifacts and enchantments in the lineage of The Rack and Black Vise and to grind out wins via heavy discard. However, many of those cards are pretty low impact, so I've been trying to put some more powerful repeating damage effects while still focusing on the discard theme. The commander, Seizan, Perverter of Truth's card draw is symmetrical, but with the many discard effects you can stack the triggers so that the opponents' lose their bonus cards before they can use them. Many of the discard effects are also symmetrical, but you can mitigate the downside with clever trigger stacking and using tech like Bag of Holding. In fact, one of the themes/goals of this deck is to break the symmetry of the many discard and draw effects in this deck.

DISCARD SUITE:

Cunning Lethemancer, Herald of Anguish, Mindslicer, Thoughtrender Lamia, Death Cloud, Pox, Smallpox, Bottomless Pit, Necrogen Mists, Oppression, Painful Quandary (sometimes), Words of Waste, Liliana, Waker of the Dead, and Geier Reach Sanitarium.

REPEATABLE DAMAGE EFFECTS:

Fate Unraveler, Bloodchief Ascension, Liliana's Caress, Megrim, Painful Quandary (sometimes), Polluted Bonds, Quest for the Nihil Stone, Shrieking Affliction, and Underworld Dreams.

CARD DRAW:

Seizan, Perverter of Truth, Asylum Visitor, Graveborn Muse, Necropotence, Phyrexian Arena, Waste Not, Ghirapur Orrery, Memory Jar, Dread Presence, and Bag of Holding.

DEFENSE / BOARD CONTROL:

Archfiend of Ifnir, Massacre Girl, Koskun Falls, Defile, Tainted AEther, Noetic Scales, Storm Cauldron, Bontu's Last Reckoning, Crux of Fate, Murderous Rider, Death Cloud, Mutilate, Pox, and Smallpox.

THOUGHTS / OBSERVATIONS

One of the coolest things that I've experienced is breaking symmetry of certain cards with clever trigger-stacking on my opponents' upkeeps. You can make things very unfavorable for them by resolving the Shrieking Affliction trigger before they draw cards from Seizan, Perverter of Truth and after Seizan's trigger resolves, then hitting them with Bottomless Pit's trigger right after. You can maximize the damage dealt to them while minimizing the Seizan cards they draw. However, on your turn even though you are often hit with your discard triggers, you can stack them against the Seizan triggers as favorably as possible.

EDIT: Bag of Holding replaces Moonring Mirror. Very similar effect, but a lot cheaper to cast.

A card I'm excited about is Ghirapur Orrery. At first glance it might seem odd in a discard deck since your opponent's could potentially benefit from the "draw three cards" clause, however, with Howling Mine and Seizan, Perverter of Truth you have a good chance of stacking triggers in such a way as to resolve the Orrery's upkeep trigger after they've picked up a card or two. Of course for your turn you'd make sure to resolve the Orrery trigger BEFORE your Howling Mine-like triggers. Just another way to out-card your annoyed opponents.

Any thoughts are appreciated!

Updates Add

I love playing this deck, but once you get cards like Oppression in play you become a pretty big target. This deck is great at getting you killed off by angry opponents. I want to remedy that with some better defensive cards, paired with some more powerful offensive cards. The best defensive card I could add is probably Ensnaring Bridge, but it is too expensive for me at the moment. On the defensive end, I want to add Noetic Scales in the meantime and possibly Koskun Falls and/or Crawlspace. I'm excited about Herald of Anguish, but am waiting for the price to drop a bit more. I think that Storm Cauldron could possibly be a great inclusion. It could be pretty back-breaking once you get a couple damage/discard enchantments in play.

One observation, the card Pox is EXTREMELY powerful. You can play in such a way so that you are relatively unscathed while your opponents get wrecked.
