I like many other sultai reanimator players have been noticing a major shift in the meta as far as our deck is concerned. If you're like me sultai has been a constant and reliable deck that has done you so well and hell with the additions of Den Protector and Deathmist Raptor we all that we were gonna start rising up once more and start playing with the big dogs for some time to come. Sadly, that doesn't seem to be the case, or at least not for me. Maybe it's just my LGS but I have been rocked by Dromoka's Command taking out our Whip of Erebos and Courser of Kruphix, Virulent Plague rendering Sidisi, Brood Tyrant worthless, and mono red aggro beating our faces in before most of us can get shop set up. Not to mention all of the hate we've been facing already. I'm sick of relying on a old tactics such as Whip of Erebos in win con. Let's utilize what other wedge clans don't have an abundant access to... Delve.
The Delvers:
-Tasigur, the Golden Fang - A possible turn 3 body that can easily deal with early threats and be a consistent source of mill along with threat return.
-
Necropolis Fiend
- An elusive 4/5 that no one seems to run. "You mean to tell me that I can cast a flyer that can basically kill any creature my opponent has just by delving cards away? Awesome..." It's not only a blocker but a brilliant removal through a creature.
-Dig Through Time - Extra card advantage. Need I say more?
-
Dead Drop
- "Were's murderous cut?!" While very powerful, I think
Dead Drop
is a better fit for this deck. With the rise of Fleecemane Lion, Dragonlord Ojutai Silumgar, the Drifting Death and other creatures becoming more and more difficult to kill with direct spells, I can get a 2 for 1 with this card and get past buggers like those.
-
Corpseweft
- Although this card does not technically have the delve mechanic on it, it still utilizes a form of it. I can remove only three creatures, that I don't have if I get back really, to create a 6/6. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the black Mastery of the Unseen. By far much more mana efficient and the synergy is just beautiful here.
The Millers:
-Sidisi, Brood Tyrant - Chump blocker generator, exploit fodder and overall potential win con sidisi is just an absolute beast.
-Commune with the Gods - Helps us to find answers that we're looking for while feeding more and more into our graveyard. Yeah, I think I like...
-Satyr Wayfinder - Mana curver, chump blocker, exploit fodder and graveyard filler.
-
Returned Reveler
- A body that works exceptionally well with Sidisi, Brood Tyrant and well... just about any delver in the deck. Kicker, he's a nice little chump blocker that forces our opponents hand on if they want to kill it or not.
Reactive synergies:
-Silumgar Sorcerer - addition creature control with chump blocking duties.
-Merciless Executioner - Another edict effect that doesn't have to kill itself. Maybe a Satyr Wayfinder? I don't think I'd miss my creature as much as you miss your own.
-
Sidisi's Faithful
- Creature curve out control. Amazing chomp blocker early on and great exploit target for later games.
-
Profaner of the Dead
- This card is amazing with
Corpseweft
. Get the zombie on end step of my opponent, sac it with this beauty and swing in for some easy damage. It's just... ahhh
The rest:
-Sylvan Caryatid - Mana fixing, and chump blocker
-Den Protector - Works better to have a creature for return duties thanks to all of the other synergies at work here. So he made the cut over Foul Renewal.
Now I'll be the first to admit that game one this deck does tend to suffer on the first game against control. But I plan to be able to side into a control midrange deck really utilizing
Corpseweft
and Sidisi, Brood Tyrant. Still haven't quite found the right sideboard mix but I should have it done in no time.
Tell me what you think and please give me suggestions on how to go about this decks build.
