Animar, Soul of Elements

  • Thee Ideal Setup

Animar, Soul of Elements is a tool to set the board, a bit more difficult to get rid of against the right opponent, and is oh so lovable.

Birds of Paradise is ideal for turn one, gets Animar, Soul of Elements out by turn two. Bloom Tender is a nice turn three followed by Imperial Recruiter to get out Ornithopter of Paradise at no cost.

Mystic Confluence is a key component to an early win/knock-out. If no Mystic Confluence in hand, turn four drops Shardless Agent to hopefully cascade into Mystical Tutor to fish out Mystic Confluence turn five. Mystical Confluence then takes care of an opponents early game board presence.

Of course! The potential is that by turn five Animar, Soul of Elements will have 4 counters. This is when Ancestral Statue drops at no cost to infinitely tick up Animar for the beatdown.

No Ancestral Statue-no problem.

Instead, use Mystic Confluence to bring back Imperial Recruiter and cast him again to fish out Fierce Empath. Turn 5 potential now has 6 counters on Animar, Soul of Elements.

Turn 7 starts with Fierce Empath to fish out Apex Devastator. Let the cascading begin!

No need to fret if he gets countered, the cascade still triggers and the possibilities are as high and the cards in the deck.

Side note:

All Cards are cards that can be cascaded into, it is important to not have wasted potential. :)

Elso, I looked at what was being cascaded into and tried to narrow down the selection to get at cards that will move the game forward.

Concerns:

  1. The curve doesn’t look that great — at the same time - the synergy and flow is supreme. Having a bad hand proves that the low cmc get something and get to somewhere.

  2. Are the +x/+x worthy of a spot with the current deck list. In play they are useful, buuut — I scratch my head and wonder if I am missing a component that will take Animar to the next level.

  3. Sword of Fire and Ice. The deck can run without Animar, so is it justified?

  4. Lack of counter spells. Cascading into a counter spell that is not have modal sucks balloons. Options? Do I have enough conditions to react, or is there something more that can be done? In a pod, the constant board wipes are overwhelming. :/

Last few words:

Animar, Soul of Elements is a really fun deck, however what can anyone suggest to take this deck up a few levels?

Much Appreciation and I hope for you to have a next best starting hand!
