Castle de la Goaway

Commander / EDH*

Hominis

It's sunrise. The plains of battle lie before you, two or three others standing on giant metal pillars identical to your own, but hundreds of yards off. A thin bolt of lightning snakes down to the center of your arena from the clear skies above, and the silence stays impeccable. A moment passes. Then, as if from the very rock under you, echoing thunder shatters the illusion of peace. You see mountains and streams raised from the very earth in the distance with godlike prowess, as impossible creatures stampede around the forests. The wings of a dragon beat in the distance.

What do you do?

Build a castle. What else?

This deck intends consistently and constantly fortify it's position each turn, deterring attackers without posing a threat. While the other players waste resources on squabbling, you will slowly, brick by brick, create an impenetrable network of creatures and enchantments to withstand any blow.

Bursts of magic streak across the sky, illuminating the carnage below. Deified legends tear apart the earth, and masses of creatures pour from the ravines blow. Barriers are shattered as the essence of the land is used to fuel the carnage. Yet it is only seen towards the horizon: your walls remain free of the ravages of conflict. You keep building. Perhaps a keep next?

After the preliminary defenses are established, and the tone is firmly set that you are hard to attack, the deck starts playing more proactive cards. This is where your bigger creatures come around, and the commander is definitely on the battlefield. These cards keep pace with other player's boards, but don't overextend and seem too powerful. The main goal is to set up for the late game, where the deck shines.

You scan through the clouds of dust and smoke, spotting tiny soldiers amidst a clash of giants. The armies of your opponents are massing, and steadily turning towards your walls. Yet, you stand atop a fortress, manned with every manner of charm, aura, and divinity. Patiently, you count the approaching forces, carpeting the landscape with a chaos of fury, marching ever closer. A rumbling begins behind you, but you do not turn. The enemy's roaring grows louder. Their forces keep coming. Just as they reach the clearing before you, your gates open and a mass of men pour from the castle's depths. Angels fly overhead. Gargantuan monsters appear from your forests. As your forces drive them slowly back, you sit down and stroke your beard. Just for fun, you call upon your abilities, and all combat stops. You chuckle. Then it goes on.
