Chadgar of Icewind Dale

Attacking has never felt so good!

So you wanna do some attacking, huh?

Wulfgar is the underdog of the new DnD Precon deck, and it's pretty easy to see why. Why double attack triggers when you can make 5/4 spirit dragons or attack with a single dragon and get a lot of mana? I'll tell you why: Because doubling attack triggers is absolutely silly.

Double stuffed attacks

We want to make sure we get the best value out of our attack triggers, and by gee golly there are a lot in this deck. Our lower cmc stuff includes Bomat Courier, Captain Lannery Storm, Coastline Marauders, and Hanweir Garrison  . These guys let us fill our early game with dudes that, once we play Wulfgar, allow them to absolutely explode with value. Coastline Marauder's can be particularly deadly late game when an opponent has 6-10 lands out.

Late game we got finishers like Inferno Titan, Kalonian Hydra, Pathbreaker Ibex, Blossoming Bogbeast, and Etali, Primal Storm plus everything else along our curve. Hellkite Charger and Savage Ventmaw is a potent finisher.

LETS RAMP

We're in green, so you're probably asking "why are you running rocks, land ramp, AND dudes"? Well, we really wanna hit our lands because a lot of our stuff curves out into the late game. I prefer to only run rocks 2cmc and below, and all the ramp in here (except Skyshroud Claim for obvious reasons) is 3cmc or below. Somberwald Sage is particularly spicy because it helps us turbo-ramp early game into some of our bigger guys, and can also be a potential attacker once we get some of our bombs out.

We need to DRAW the threats first!

Card draw in these colors is usually tied to either (a. creature based cantrips or (b. impulse draw. Utilizing both of these, we can keep our hand full. Garruk's Uprising and Elemental Bond will trigger on virtually every creature in this deck, minus a few. Greater Good is a great way to recycle fatties in response to removal. Rishkar's Expertise is a great spell to draw a stupid amount of cards but I've found AMAZING success with Ignite the Future. This card is excellent, and its flashback cost allows us to reuse it later when we may be low on cards. Werewolf Pack Leader on attack trigger is really nice once you can double it.

Removal is key

Removal in these colors is pretty easy to go by. You got your standards like Beast Within and Reclamation Sage, but Ram Through is especially effective since most of our good stuff has trample or we can give it trample. Starstorm is a really underrated board wipe that can save us in a pinch, and Unnatural Aggression is just... MWUAH, chefs kiss! Krosan Grip for those pesky decks that like to protect their artifacts and enchantmens.

Recursion and Protection

You're playing fatties and wanna go smash, so naturally you're gonna wanna protect them, right? Regrowth is just an auto include in virtually any deck playing green, and nearly the same can be said for Eternal Witness. However dont underestimate how much Artisan of Kozilek can be in a pinch. Heroic Intervention for the eventual boardwipe and Bolt Bend (which just so happens to require the very power our commander has) when the single target removal starts flying.

Wrapping it all up

The entire gameplan of this deck is to play dudes and smash face. Simple, right? Key cards include Anger, Fires of Yavimaya, Rhythm of the Wild to make sure we can come out swining. Dolmen Gate allows us to keep our dudes safe while we swing in. Hans Eriksson is a great little way to cheat out things, alongside Signal the Clans being an amazing tutor at instant speed that lets you get virtually one of anything your deck wants to do and I've definitely won some games with Vengeful Ancestor just forcing my opponents creature elsewhere.

Wulfgar is probably the most fun Gruul commander I've ever played, and I've played most of them. If you want to have different games every time, play this deck because when all your attack triggers are doubled - you can win a lot of different ways.

Some eventual additions

There are some cards I do plan on adding once I can get ahold of them. Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma, Elder Gargaroth, Ilharg, the Raze-Boar, Scourge of the Throne, and Druids' Repository are currently on that list.
