Sideboard

Chainer is the best mono black general without a doubt!

Combos

This deck will usually go for a quick combo enabled by Chainer. With chained, you can leverage your graveyard as a second hand and cheat out the creature parts of the combo. Buried Alive is the MVP of tutors, as getting Yahenni + K'rrik + Gary in the bin will usually result in a win with the big mana package.

K'rrik + Gary + sac outlet K'rrik + Kokusho + sac outlet Ashnod's Altar + Marionette Master + Nim Deathmantle Marionette Master + Nim Deathmantle + Phyrexian Altar Ashnod's Alter + Nim Deathmantle + Grave titan + Torment of Hailfire Mikeaus the unhallowed + Walking Ballista + sac outlet

Long Game

If the combo route is not your bag, a piece gets exiled, or you want to get really grinds with it, Chainer can go for the VERY long game.

There is a big daddy black pack with you mana, with coffers, mana doublers, and a fun Crucible of Worlds + Lake of the Dead combo! With creatures like sheoldred and Mikeaus you can extend the game and deny the board their creature resources as you spool up for a big swing with your top end or a combo.

No Mercy is a personal tech choice as I play in a meta where creatures will be beating down early and often, and No Mercy can stave them off as you prepare for a wipe.

Unsung Heros

Altar of Dementia will let you suicide mill with your fatties to churn through your deck and get those valuable combo pieces in your bin. Milling yourself for 12 with a Wurmcoil Engine over and over with chained can make quick work of your library and get you there. milling opponents is very fun too to play their sweet creatures or just killing the overzealous drawer.

Spawning Pit When combo with a Grave Pact or Dictate of Erebos can be a renewable board wipe and really oppress your opponent's boards.

Sangromancer will gain you hoards of life and help extend you deeper into the game. While it is a slower value card, if you are not drawing your tutors or want to avoid a quick combo kill.

Pox Pox is a pet card of mine and can really do some work. With our reanimation package and Crucible, it can really help break the parity when the green play is ramping out of control or the beatdown deck has a gigantic boar of dorks and mid range threats. the lifeless can hurt and potentially put you in a precarious position, so use this one with caution if you have drawn the ire of the table and are easy pickings for a full table crackback.

Tune downs

If you would like to play chained for more value and remove the tutors or combo kills, Chainer can offer a fantastic experience playing the cards in your opponents graveyards and can be tuned down for tons of fun in a more casual meta.

Tune Downs Vampiric Tutor , Demonic Tutor , Buried Alive , Diabolic Intent , K'rrik, Walking Ballista , and Nim Deathmantle are all the huge enablers of the combo strategy and can make games feel very linear. The cards in my sideboard are the ones that I rotate into these slots to adjust to the meta I am playing in!

Budget Options

If you are balling on a budget, you have some great options as well for an enriching game play experience!

In Garruk's Wake I a very affordable board wipe. the 9 mana cost an be intimidating but in big daddy black that holds almost no bar on the ability to cast it. great swap for Deluge or Damnation.

Geth, Lord of the Vault is a fun mill and reanimation card that got its price slashed in the reprint.

Butcher of Malaria is an affordable, and repeatable, replacement for Grave Pact and/or Dictate.

Discard outlets like Oppression , painful quandry, and Necrogen Mists are fun ways to fill opponents graveyard to play with their toys!
