Christina's Olivia Deck

Commander / EDH* BR (Rakdos)

This deck is built to give Christina a look into how to build Olivia Voldaren.

This is a budget friendly CASUAL deck, each card is supposed to be under 20 dollars, with very few exceptions (Exquisite Blood).

It focuses on several strategies.

  1. The Bloodletting. Vampires like to attack and fight, and we want to reward them with counters to make them more powerful. Attack often, attack early, and get those counters to drain your opponents life total.
  2. Rise from the Grave. Pull powerful cards out of your graveyard to essentially cheat out your strongest creatures to the battlefield.
  3. Entrance the masses. Steal other players creatures and either make them yours, or use their power to drain your opponents life total.
  4. Reign in Blood. Let's just do a lot of non-combat damage and reap the rewards. Encourage your opponents to fight each other.

Things to notice in the deckbuilding process:

    1. This is essentially a deck with all cards costing less than 6 Mana, the two cards that cost more have ways to reduce it's mana cost. We also have plenty sources of mana ramp, allowing you to use things like X spells, or pay for commander tax on Olivia, Crimson Bride.
    1. If you use Diabolic Tutor (the budget friendly version), you'll want to search for cards that draw you cards, like Greed. You need card draw. This can't be understated.
    1. You will note that there is no way to exceed your handsize greater than 7, this is because you want cards either on the battlefield, or in the graveyard. This is by design.
    1. You have Vandalblast and Feed the Swarm to protect against things that will prevent you from accessing your graveyard. (Such as Leyline of the Void, or Grafsdiggger cage)
    1. You will note that there are many ways to double your mana, such as Nirkana Revenant, Caged Sun, Gauntlet of Power, Black Market.
    1. You want to mill yourself. Altar of Dementia is vital for this. This will allow you to load up your graveyard for things like Charmbreaker Devils and Olivia, Crimson Bride.
    1. There are several graveyard cards that weren't included, such as Victimize, and Hell's Caretaker, Entomb, etc. If you find that you're not efficient enough in the graveyard, we can look at this.

Pro Tips:

  • Olivia, Crimson Bride should be the Commander. We are not as concerned with the activated abilities (stealing vampires) with Olivia Voldaren, so we want to cheat out cards that give you advantage on Crimson Bride's attack trigger.
  • Cheat out creatures with Olivia, Crimson Bride + any card that has the text "Enters the Battlefield". Then you can use a sacrifice card to put that card back into the graveyard to do it again, turn after turn. (Kardur Doomscourge, Malakir Bloodwitch, Patron of the Vein, Gray Merchant of Asphodel) Especially dirty is: Olivia, Crimson Bride + Drana, the Last Bloodchief, + any nonlegendary vampire. 2 free creatures off of the attack trigger.
  • Feed the graveyard with Anje Falkenrath, or Olivia, Mobilized for War - Discard a card into your graveyard, then attack with Olivia, Crimson Bride. (Gives you card advantage and utilizes Olivia's ability)
  • If something is about to make you not have a Legendary Vampire, sacrifice the other creatures she brought out to one of your sacrifice outlet cards. (Altar of Dementia, Viscera Seer, Goblin Bombardment) to avoid the Exile drawback.
  • Exquisite Blood + either Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose or Sanguine Bond creates an infinite damage/lifegain loop.
  • Gauntlet of Power, or Caged Sun - Choose Swamps (Black).
  • Steal your opponents creatures with cards like Act of Aggression, Furnace Reins, Act of Treason, Captivating Crew, Seize the Spotlight, and then sacrifice them with Altar of Dementia (Choosing yourself so you can fill up your graveyard for Olivia, Crimson Bride), Viscera Seer, or Goblin Bombardment (Which pairs nicely with cards like Solphim, Mayhem Dominus, City on Fire, All Will Be One, and Blood Artist) Charmbreaker Devils will allow you to grab those sorcery and instant cards out of your graveyard.
