this deck list is based off of David Yovino's 5 color avatar of might deck from 2019: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJ7m88ydHDg

I have always liked this deck, and I wanted to see if I could put it in a stax/enchanters shell. so here it is. the main game plan is to give your opponent tokens in order to make Avatar of Might cheaper to cast. we can give the opponents these tokens using Forbidden Orchard, Hunted Phantasm.

now the obvious problem with given the opponent creatures is that they can attack us with them and we would quickly die to them. that is why this deck might work in a stax/enchanters shell. the original deck that David Yovino played got around this by having Ghostly Prison and Amulet of Safekeeping. while we don't have the amulet in this deck, we are replacing it with Sphere of Safety, and Solitary Confinement. We want them to have as many creatures as possible so these cards will help us not lose as much life to them as possible.

now that they have a ton of tokens, Avatar of Might will have it's cost reduced and we can swing out at them with trample. we also have Rakdos Charm to punish the amount of creatures they have. the final card that was in the original deck list that is also another reason to go stax/enchantress is card:Treaspasser's Curse. this curse will drain the opponent slowly at first, but in the late game this monster of a card will secure a victory with Forbidden Orchard; especially if we have more than 1 out.

Now we can just use some good enchantment payoffs to make this deck truly a stax/enchantress deck. by adding draw cards like Sythis, Harvest's Hand, Spreading Seas, and Abundant Growth; we can easily draw into our combos while making Sphere of Safety have more tax. finally Sterling Grove is such an amazing card in this deck; not only does it protect our enchantments from removal, it also can tutor up enchantments that we need. Finally we added The Meathook Massacre as a form of removal for the opponent's creatures they have as well as the tokens we give them. this is a nice backup plan if the opponent removes our stax pieces or if we need a boardwipe.

so yeah, this is my way of making a 2 year old deck a bit viable in the current meta. at least I think. I haven't played modern in a while and this deck could obviously need some help tuning and optimizing. I will be play testing it though and hopefully I will make a sideboard for this deck lol. leave any suggestions, I am in need of them if I want to make this deck better.

Updates Add

i added my deck to Nikachu's deck review discord channel and he checked it out. he made some good suggestions and i decided to enact on them. first lets talk about the cards we removed, then what new cards we added, then what cards we added more copies of, then finally the suggestions i wont be taking from nikachu.

we removed mercy killing, dress down, brass city, swamp, and idyllic tutor. Nikachu made some good comments about how mercy killing was not really doing much as a 1 of, as well as idyllic tutor. dress down was also not doing so well in this deck anyways. i made the decision to replace brass city with a strictly better card. the main reason is because when you tap brass city you will take damage, no matter what sort of enchantment you put on it (well except spreading seas but that is for our opponent).

the cards i added to the deck are: The Meathook Massacre, and mana confluence. Nikachu's chat made the suggestion for the meathook and he agrees it would be an amazing card in this deck. it is removal which this deck needs and it is a good plan if we can't find our combo peices or if the opponent has removed our stax peices that are keeping creatures at bay. i made the decision to replace brass city with mana confluence mainly because it does what brass city does and if we add an abundant growth onto it, it wont damage us when we tap for mana; unlike brass city.

we also added more copies of: field of ruin, and sphere of safety. i decided to take out the swamp and replace it for a field of ruin, mainly because we dont use a lot of black mana. i added 1 more copy of sphere of safety because i thought it would be better in the long game for our deck.

the suggestions we wont be taking from Nikachu: we are NOT going to remove Avatar of Might. Nikachu really didnt see the value of Avatar of Might in this deck, mainly because he had the assumption that we would be giving our opponent so many creatures they would die to blockers. he thought a good idea would be to remove Avatar of Might entirely to add more copies of hunted phantasm or other things. he also made the assumption that this deck wins more with trespasser's curse. the facts from playing with this deck alot is that the deck wins more with Avatar of Might than it wins with Tresspasser's curse. the soonest we can get an Avatar of might on the field is by turn 3, by having 2 forbidden orchids. once we have the avatar out, we dont need to give our opponent any more creatures. while some say that it would make it that we cant tap our forbidden orchids for mana anymore, all you have to do is swing in with the avatar of might. by then if you have been playing optimally, it is a 8/8 trample against their 4 1/1s. and if they dont block, we just play more of our stacky stuff and keep swinging eachturn till they are dead or we can drain them out with the trespasser's curse or burn them with the rakdos charm. if we removed the avatar of might, then why play forbidden orchid or tresspasser's curse? why not just make it a regular stax/ enchantress deck? this deck is called Chromatic Stacky Avatar for a reason and Avatar of Might is not a deadweight to this deck.

now, if you really wanna remove Avatar of Might, i would recommend replacing it with Suture priest. this is basically a trespasser's curse on a creature and will help you burn the opponent out even more.
