Commander / EDH Budget GWU (Bant)

Jimmy on a Tight Budget

Trying to put together a Chulane Infinite Landfall/Mana/Draw/Mill/Life you name it, provided our deck budget doesn't go over $200. And notably, no cards above $20.. About to be built on paper soon, so i figured I should playtest my list here. Only missing a few core cards. Constructive criticisms are welcome ;-; Please enjoy! And tell me what you think about it ^_^

The Combos

Our commander focuses on getting card draw and land drops just by casting creatures, so in order for us to fully utilize his unique ability, we need a ton of low cost creatures. The lower the CMC of the creature, the better. And this leads us to a lot of opportunities to combo off in so many ways.

The cards we need are going to be Sakura-Tribe Scout + Stone-Seeder Hierophant and Freed from the Real / Retreat to Coralhelm and lastly, Trade Routes to bounce our land.

Here's how it works-

  1. Tap Stone-Seeder Hierophant to untap an Island, producing 1 mana.
  2. Tap the land to produce another 1 mana.
  3. Pay 1 for Trade Routes to bounce our land.
  4. Tap the Sakura-Tribe Scout to put it back in play, Stone-Seeder untaps (as well as the Scout if we have Retreat to Coralhelm , if not, we use the Island to pay 1 blue mana for Freed from the Real 's untap ability.)
  • Rinse and Repeat
  • *This could also generate infinite mana if we have Retreat to Coralhelm provided you tap the land for mana before returning it with Trade Routes.*
With this combo we can pull off landfall and ETB effects such as Suture Priest , Intruder Alarm and our commander's triggered ability. To do this (without Aluren lmao) we need one of Shrieking Drake / Dream Stalker / Whitemane Lion or any of Memnite / Phyrexian Walker / Shield Sphere / Ornithopter , Lotus Cobra and Equilibrium . This will enable us to continiously draw from our deck as long as we hit a land (preferably a basic land).

Here's an example how:

  1. We have Lotus Cobra on our field, we cast Ornithopter , Chulane, Teller of Tales triggers, we draw, and if we hit a land we immediately get 1 mana of any color, if we hit a basic land we can tap it to get an additional mana from the land.
  2. Equilibrium triggers, but we don't pay just yet.
  3. We cast another creature, the lower cmc the better. Namely, Memnite , our commander triggers again.
  4. Equilibrium triggers again, this time we pay for the bounce ability to bounce our Ornithopter back to our hand, so we can recast it and continue with the loop.
  • This doesn't win us the game just yet, but given that we keep hitting lands and Lotus Cobra remains on the field, we can get a ton of value from this tactic.

Who wouldn't expect an infinite mana combo in Bant colors? The core piece of this mana loop is Intruder Alarm , and if you wanna do it fast, Thousand-Year Elixir is there for you. With this combo we can draw cards with our commander and we could also dump all of our mana into assembling all our other combos together that will win us the game. Now, the combo:
  1. First we're gonna need Intruder Alarm on the field along with a mana dork that can drop another mana dork. Say, Llanowar Elves into Elvish Mystic . And to do this perfectly we need our Thousand-Year Elixir .
  2. Once we have all the mana dorks we need we can just dump a 0 drop like Ornithopter into the field and untap all our creatures. And if we have Equilibrium , we have all we need on the field.
  • We can use this to essentially win the game if we manage to get our commander out on the same turn, as it will lead to us drawing our entire deck and assemble our combos.

How do we win with these combos? Yes. The answer is yes.

We can mill our opponents out with Hedron Crab + the landfall combo. Find a way to get the crab to join the party and we're set to win the game.

Another one way to do this without the landfall combo is through the Winds of Rebuke + Eternal Witness combo. Having both cards ends in a loop provided you control 3-5 mana dorks and Intruder Alarm .

Here's how:

  1. We cast Winds of Rebuke , targeting any legal target.
  2. We then cast Eternal Witness to bring Winds of Rebuke back to our hand, and as E-Witness enters, our mana dorks untap thanks to Intruder Alarm .
  3. Using our mana dorks to produce at least 5 mana to recast Winds of Rebuke and target Eternal Witness .
  • This ends in a loop where everyone on the table mills themselves out, but if we have Elixir of Immortality out, we have a pseudo-Eldrazi Titan effect that could save us from our own combo, leaving our opponents - assuming they dont have an Eldrazi Titan of their own :/ - to lose the game on their next turn. Otherwise, we win through something else.

The reason why we have God-Eternal Oketra and Rampaging Baloths in this deck is because people will probably see through your combo the minute you give a hint. These two cards are here as a failsafe when your first plan fails. And we have Alchemist's Refuge and Village Bell-Ringer to give them a big surprise.

We're mostly going to do this once we've assembled a combo, preferably infinite mana from dorks if we have the cards we need in our hand.

  1. At the end of our opponent's turn we flash in a Village Bell-Ringer , of course, with Chulane on our field, we drop our Alchemist's Refuge and activate it's ability to give us flash on all our spells.
  2. If we have either God-Eternal Oketra or Rampaging Baloths on the field we can cast them via infinite mana and proceed to either the creature bounce or landfall combo. And with chulane out, we can keep drawing our deck if we still need either Oketra or the Baloths.
  3. This will generate us as much tokens as we want that can attack as soon as the turn ends, and win us the game.
We have Mangara of Corondor , and we have Shaman of Forgotten Ways . Mangara fucntions similarly to Fiend Hunter . Mangara's ability only has an activation cost of tapping, once we tap him for his ability it will be on the stack, and while on the stack, we can bounce Mangara back to our hand to not leave him in exile. We can win through Mangara and the Shaman using the creature bounce and the infinite mana combo. The cards we're gonna need will be Equilibrium , Thousand-Year Elixir and a 0 drop creature.
  1. Assuming we have all we need on the field, we cast a 0 drop Ornithopter , Equilibrium's trigger goes on the stack, and we respond to the stack by tapping Mangara for his ability.
  2. After tapping Mangara, we then pay the bounce cost for Equilibrium to bounce Mangara back to our hand. Mangara's ability then resolves, and we get to exile an opponent's creature of our choice with Mangara still in our hand.
  3. We then cast Mangara again and pay the bounce cost for Equilibrium, bouncing our Ornithopter . and since we have Thousand-Year Elixir we can exile another creature immediately. Resulting in a loop until all of our opponent's creatures are exiled.
  4. Since we have mana from our dorks Intruder Alarm , we can pull off the Shaman of Forgotten Ways ' ability, turning our opponent's life total to 0.

Utilities

Other utilities that you may need can be found in some creatures. Dosan the Falling Leaf will make our combos unstoppable once he comes in, unless your opponent has Voidmage Apprentice lol rip. Aven Mindcensor will control our opponents from finding counterspells or whatever they need for the situation. Vizier of the Menagerie to eliminate color fixing. And so on and so forth.
If you're worried about drawing your entire deck out with Chulane's ability without the Lab Maniac, you can always return Chulane back to your hand to avoid drawing yourself out of the game while proceeding with the combos that casts creatures such as the landfall and milling combo.
  • This deck is strictly going to be below $200 and will not be upgraded unless able. This is my first submission here on tappedout and I'd like to know what you think.
  • Thanks for checking out the deck!
