*RETIRED* Fear Is The Mind-Killer: Hazezon EDH

Commander / EDH

UPDATE: This deck has been retired. Although it was an interesting idea and I'm grateful for KaijuSplicer's help, it just never...worked right. I found I overextended too often, or drew the wrong pieces, or simply died before I could do anything noteworthy. And as much as a Dune-based deck appealed to me, the linear nature of token decks couldn't keep my attention for long enough. The deck has been scrapped, and many of the token elements have been absorbed by my Oathbreaker and Kingslayer: Adriana EDH | *PRIMER* deck. Also, I never did end up completing the mana base beyond a rudimentary form, heh. That probably didn't help. Still, as with many of my other retired decks, I'm leaving it online for people to see in the future (including myself).

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain. Frank Herbert, Dune

His name in Magic may be Hazezon Tamar, but he'll always be Paul Atreides to me. A desert warrior, he charges at the head of his horde to victory in the harshest conditions imaginable.

The point of the deck is to ramp extensively, cast Hazezon, and use his tokens (or tokens from other sources) for further ramping with cards like Ashnod's Altar or Earthcraft.

WIN CONDITIONSEldrazi Displacer forms an infinite combo with Mana Echoes and Avenger of Zendikar, though several other cards can fill this spot as well. Infinite mana and infinite creatures should usually win you the game, haha.

Craterhoof Behemoth can be tutored early using Natural Order or Chord of Calling; it should end the game if you have several tokens out. Bonus points for making everything unblockable with Champion of Lambholdt.

Infinite (or finite-but-very-large) mana with Genesis Wave spits most of your deck onto the battlefield, including the several haste engines. That should usually be enough to win through combat damage, considering the number of large power-boosting effects in the deck. Warp World is supposed to have the same effect, but I haven't felt it's been pulling its weight recently.

This is a deck that KaijuSplicer and I built together. He's a great deck-builder, though he doesn't have much uploaded here - check out his stuff! :)

More info about the deck to come soon.
