Colourless Artifacts & Horrors

Modern Midrange

StrelokCH

Sideboard

A colourless deck that focuses on ramping with artifacts and artifact creatures to eventually unleash planeswalkers and Ulamog the hungry, hungry horror.

The colourless lands offer various benefits, such as creating artifact creatures for a turn for defensive purposes or drawing cards. Cards such as Mind Stone, Guardian Idol, Hedron Archive, Palladium Myr and Radiant Fountain give additional colourless mana for ramp. Thran Temporal Gateway allows to cheat in more expensive cards at a fixed cost (four mana plus tapping TTG, thus effectively taking away five mana), this will be less important as soon as you drop Forsaken Monument thanks to its doubling effect.

Karn, the Great Creator allows to get cards outside of the game, the sideboard offers some nice choices. Aetherflux Reservoir adds an alternative win condition, God-Pharaoh's Statue screws with the opponents mana pool as well as punishes draw focused decks, Mirror Box allows for multiple legendaries, which means there's a potential to field multiple instances of Forsaken Monument for a ridiculous amount of colourless mana generation as well as buffing all the otherwise relatively weak artifact creatures, or even dropping two Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hungers and going for a fast mill victory.

Platinum Angel can protect from an early death, but opponents usually know how to deal with them. They provide a great distraction while you setup your artifacts. The same goes for Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger, opponents will laser focus on the friendly neighbourhood horror from beyond, three attacks from him is usually enough to mill someone to death.

Important to note is that cheating in Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger with Thran Temporal Gateway will not trigger the summoning ability to remove two permanents, which is usually important to deal with particularly nasty enchantments or creatures your opponent is running.

This deck needs some time to properly get going, during which the opponents usually summons more creatures than you. Use Ugin, the Spirit Dragon's ability to remove coloured permanents liberally, since nothing in this deck will be affected by the board wipe.
