Commander Volrath

Commander / EDH

MythicalMythic

This deck is shown here in it's entirety for the first time ever, with respect to bardicfury on Reddit, and his article comment of my cascade deck I made years ago referenced in the blog titled "What is the most creative EDH deck you've ever seen?" I created that cascade to hypergen deck in client Version 3 of MTGO in 2011, along with this one - be wary, your opponents will likely block you, due to the awesome power of surprise and perfect control. This deck takes some getting used to, so play it with the understanding that even I, the creator, get confused if I haven't pulled it out in a while as a secret weapon.

The idea of the entire deck, is to use the 12 different ways that get Survival of the Fittest out on the board. That is the only weapon, coupled with green mana, you need. Once Volrath hits the board, Survival of the Fittest gives you total and complete control over: untapping the following turn, giving him hexproof, giving SoTF indestructible/hexproof, allowing your next opponent after that one to not untap, recycling your graveyard with the Eldrazi, drawing two cards on the third opponent's draw step, putting a creature in your graveyard, and choosing Sheoldred to drop so on your upkeep you pull Seedborn or Avacyn, Angle of Hope out for free.... The control is endlessly fun. I included a couple of ways (since there's so much search in the deck, mainly for SoTF), to kill something like Rest In Peace, or Leyline of the Void.

Again, SoTF + Volrath = game over. Quick tip - If you change up any creatures, Volrath WORKS for any creature stating "If you cast this from your hand ***." In other words, I can make my opponents discard their hands, if Myojin of Night's Reach is on top of my graveyard when I cast Volrath, for 3 mana.

I've also noticed, over the many years, much of the key to success in winning a duel is, (believe it or not) land. Not just any land, the right balance of land colors vs your spells, coupled with NOT COMING INTO PLAY TAPPED, along with having enough in the deck. MTGO's "random number generator," (RNG) algorithm is totally screwed up. You have to have 40 lands in EDH to really have a good land-to-spell ratio in draw. Just a note.
