Competative Grixis Control

Modern* Control UBR (Grixis)

A Grixis Control deck based on the deck piloted by Patrick Chapin in GP Detroit last year.

If all goes as planned I want to use this for GP Minneapolis.

I chose Serum visions over Think Twice due to wanting to hit every land drop every turn plus filtering away dead cards. The mana usage in this deck needs to be tight and I think Think Twice just isn't fast enough with the recent unbanning of Wild Nacatle, although this deck may prove to be too slow depending on how the meta shifts.

I'm not playing Remand due to the fact that this decks long-term game play plan. Remand doesn't put me much further ahead in the game and Modern is full of cheap spells that they will cast anyway.

I chose Geth's verdict over Terminate for the fact that in my meta there is an abundance of hexproof, Infect, and America. so I'd rather use an instant edict type effect but without giving them the lifegain off of Devour Flesh.

One option I went back and forth on was Chromatic Lantern and Coalition Relic, and in the end Chromatic Lantern feels better thanks to fixing my mana base and tapping for an extra mana, despite the comfort of Chromatic Lantern I feel the mana base is tight but might need a bit of tweaking. I'm unsure if I'm running too many basics in fear of a blood moon.

Electrolize is a keep and I almost want to go to 4.

I find Cruel Ultimatum to be a better Sphinx's revelation. I want to play 3 but that is too greedy unless I cut the Nicol Bolas. Nicol Bolas/Cruel Ultimatum is too tempting and fun not to try and play.
