Composite Golem
is back. Previous version where you play
Composite Golem
+
Fool's Demise
+
Grapeshot
was much slower and you had to play two colors . It seems that with cards like
Nim Deathmantle
and another free filter
Street Wraith
next to the
Manamorphose
the chances are more likely to win on turn 3 at best, and just with one color. Mana base is just basic lands and it has pretty decent price of ~100 bucks and 15 tix on MTGO for a modern deck!
The aim of this deck is simple:Sacrifice
Composite Golem
while
Nim Deathmantle
is in play as soon as possible. You get mana, pay to return golem to the battlefield and repeat this for infinite amount. Now when you have infinite amount of any color mana, you can play your win card. I choose
Pyromatics
and
Banefire
:
-
Pyromatics
- Since this combo does not produce storm, we can use
Grapeshot
's cousin for infinite damage, plus hard to counter or redirect.
-
Banefire
- Can't be countered, can't be prevented, pretty straightforward.
Alternatively, you can use 6/6 black artifact golem with intimidate and
Flicker
for beats...
Typical draw:
- Turn 1: play Mountain, cast Faithless Looting/Magmatic Insight
- Turn 2/3: play Mountain, play Vessel of Volatility
- Turn 2/3: play Mountain, play Nim Deathmantle
- Turn 4: play Mountain, sacrifice Vessel of Volatility, play Composite Golem, go to infinite and play Win card
Nut draw (consider free cantrips in-between): 8 cards
- Turn 1: play Mountain
- Turn 2: play Mountain, play Vessel of Volatility
- Turn 3: play Mountain, sacrifice vessel, play Geosurge, play Nim Deathmantle, Composite Golem, go to infinite and play win card.
ULTRA Nut draw: 9 cards, so you need to play second (seriously, if you pull this on turn two you should buy a lottery ticket)
- Turn 1: Mountain, exile Simian Spirit Guide, play Vessel of Volatility
- Turn 2: Mountain, sacrifice Vessel, exile Simian Spirit Guide, play Geosurge, play Composite Golem, play Nim Deathmantle, go to infinity and play win card
Sideboard overview:
As this is definitely not Tier1 deck and it is combo deck, it has its weaknesses: counterspells, discard and artifact removal. That is where you use your sideboard and hope for the best! Since red is terrible at removing enchantments, cards like
Rest in Peace
and
Stony Silence
are deal breakers for us, so if you have any suggestions how to deal with this without splashing additional colours that would be amazing! You don't know how far this rogue can go...
