CONSTRUCTICON LEGACY is a budget Legacy deck I came up with in preparation for a local Legacy tournament.
This is an almost entirely colorless tribal deck. The tribe is Construct. The goal is to make a blisteringly fast aggro deck which is entirely capable of casually completing its mission after a board wipe.
There are thirty-two maindeck creatures, all of which are of the Construct creature type. Three of them serve as "lords", Steel Overseer, Chief of the Foundry, and Adaptive Automaton. When casting Adaptive Automaton, the creature type of choice is Construct, though Thopter, Blinkmoth, Assembly-Worker, or even Zombie are also distinct possibilities, depending upon the board state.
In addition, there are are sixteen manlands (
Mishra's Factory
, Mutavault, Blinkmoth Nexus, and Inkmoth Nexus), twelve in the maindeck and four in the sideboard. Hence, forty-four of the cards in the maindeck are capable of attacking.
Ancient Tomb is, of course, a staple for Legacy Robots, along with the other mana accelerators, Mox Opal and Springleaf Drum. With this build, the staple Affinity/Robots equipment, Cranial Plating, has been eschewed in favor of Ghostfire Blade both because it is one less mana to cast and because it gives the creatures some toughness with a reliable power boost to go with it, though I am considering swapping out 2x for Coat of Arms. One Springleaf Drum has been replaced with a lone
Pendelhaven
.
The sideboard is set up for my current meta. I am expecting to face at least two Miracle decks, one Affinity/Robots, maybe Burn, and probably BUG. I have no way to disrupt combo, so in such a matchup, I must simply inflict all of the necessary damage before my opponent can cast the necessary cards.
Against Burn and Aggro, I have Sun Droplet and
Spatial Contortion
. Two Sun Droplet plus Ancient Tomb actually results in reliable lifegain.
Spatial Contortion
offers colorless creature removal.
Relic of Progenitus
is for helping against BUG.
Inkmoth Nexus and
Cellar Door
are for helping to deal with Miracles. Miracles plays slowly, counting on a lot of countering via a soft lock. The manlands cannot be countered, and careful use of them will mostly protect them from board sweeps. The lone [Cellar Door] is tech against [Terminus] and the only card in the list capable of producing colored permanents.
I have considered including Scour from Existence as tech against Ensnaring Bridge. While the deck is capable of producing seven mana, it can be difficult. I am better off simply trying to win before my opponent drops Ensnaring Bridge and has an empty hand. Also, I am not particularly expecting Ensnaring Bridge in this meta, though I will not be surprised if it shows up.
EDIT: Inkmoth Nexus and
Cellar Door
have been replaced with Ghost Quarter and
Ratchet Bomb
.
