PIVOT! PIVOT! PIVOT!!!

No, no, not THAT Chandler. THIS Chandler. Who is this surname-less little scoundrel? A 3/3 for CMC 5… yikes! With stats like that I’m sure he must have a worthwhile ability right?… right??? Eh, not so much. It’s no wonder my boy Chandler is one of the least played commanders in EDH.

The first time I showed up to my LGS to play commander I brought my Edgar Markov deck, and wouldn’t you know it, two other players in the pod were playing the same commander as me. In an effort to avoid such a phenomenon in the future I scoured the internet in search of some of the least played commanders. This is were I stumbled upon my homie Chandler. Let’s take a look at what we can do with this lackluster and over costed member of the “Friends” cast.

Let’s talk about what Chandler does right; he has built-in repeatable removal. If the removal wasn’t so gratuitously specific, my dude Chandler here might actually see more play. But alas we are limited to artifact creatures as Chandlers favored enemy. If by happenstance our opponents are all running artifact creature decks, we might actually have a good time with our pal Chandler here. Unfortunately for us that scenario isn’t really grounded in reality. But what if we could MAKE our opponents creatures into artifact creatures? Ashnod's Transmogrant, Liquimetal Coating, Liquimetal Torque, and everyone’s favorite Mycosynth Lattice are all going to help us do exactly that. Now our main man Chandler can blow up almost any creature he wants. Now let’s get an Unwinding Clock. I call it “The Trick” we make Chandler himself an artifact with these liquimetal whateverthehells and now the homie is untapping each and every turn so we can start abusing his ability to blow stuff up.

Cool, problem solved, Chandler is actually kind of playable now. Albeit, overcosted, but who’s keeping tabs… Not my boy Chandler! Cool, so we got our general and like 5 artifacts picked out. Luckily for us mono red has some pretty good support and synergies for artifacts, so let’s add Goblin Welder, Daretti, Scrap Savant, I’ve always loved Trading Post. Myr Retriever and Buried Ruin in case we lose anything… don’t tell anyone, but Darksteel Forge goes really well with the previously mentioned Mycosynth Lattice.

Now let’s work on some of the fundamentals. For mana ramp, we are limited. We are wanting to run any mana rock under 3 mana that we can because we really don’t have any ramp in red other than mana rocks. Wayfarer's Bauble, Burnished Hart, and Solemn Simulacrum, will be able to help a little while also supporting our artifact theme. For removal Steel Hellkite is a perfect fit and remember X=0 can wipe out an entire token army. Shattering Spree and Vandalblast for any pesky artifacts our dawg Chandler can’t take care of and Starstorm for emergencies. I have never liked card draw in mono red, so this is gonna hurt a bit. Jaya Ballard can hopefully stick around enough to be a reliable reusable source of card draw, seriously, she’s great. Big Score and its twin Thrill of Possibility, as well as Faithless Looting are always the best options if we have nothing else. I tossed in a Skullclamp as we do have some token generators I’ve added like Myr Battlesphere Elemental Mastery and some miscellaneous land effects, just to give us some more options. Ashnods alter and Phyrexian Alter can make great use of tokens as well.

Ever the little gossip girl, Chandler had pointed out to me that Rionya, Fire Dancer and Terror of the Peaks appear to have some sort of office romance going on. He says their love is nearly infinite, but I try to stay out of other people’s business.

So is this deck any good? Honestly, it’s not BAD. Idk if I would say it’s good, but I have certainly seen way worse. Is it fun? Yeah, it’s pretty fun. My boy Chandler knows how to party hard.
