Maybeboard

Ligth version of Opus Thief. Gain value from wheels, lock your opponents out of their hand, slow them down with stax and combo out to win. Not quite as strong nor as expensive, though not budget either. This deck is for high power casual play. It's mean and doesn't pull punches.

Game Plan:

We aim to win through the now classic combo Thassa's Oracle and Demonic Consultation. To accelerate us, we can use Ad Nauseam and wheels. We can also use Underworld Breach in conjunction with Windfall and Lotus Petal to assemble a bad LED combo that is a lot more conditional to go off.

The stax pieces supplement the control strategy and offer indirect protection to our combos by virtue of being lightning rods. Choose the stax pieces to suit your meta. To note, as a control deck, more often than not we will tutor for the stax pieces rather than the combo.

The commander was chosen for the colour identity. On the plus side, Breya allows to remove some of our artefact stax pieces when needed. I have a custom commander for the deck when allowed. concept-card-image:althjofr-thief-of-insight

Getting Mean:

Wheeling and playing nice isn't the whole game plan though. If we play the long game, we play to win. Notion Thief, Narset, Parter of Veils and Alms Collector will crush the parity of those wheels. Expect repercussion for playing those. Waste Not gives some added value on some wheels.

(Optional) An unlikely but complete lock we have is Narset, Parter of Veils or Notion Thief combined with Teferi's Puzzle Box. With it, we leave our opponents without hands and without a mean of getting an answer if they don't have any on the field or draw an instant speed removal on their first draw.

Making it even harder:

The stax pieces used aim to deter aristo/graveyard combos, a storm deck and a couple of superfriends. They were also chosen to impact us the least possible. And some were chosen just to be annoying. Counterbalance is one such card.

Here are which wincon each stax piece hoses (in my meta):
