v 3.0

A homebrew, forged from a long unslaked need to have a deck be ev.er.y bit as fun, as it is effective. That being said, the deck is more casually competitive, so it'll be hated at most kitchen tables, but I wouldn't count to place at a Modern tournament.

Dead: Legion Elite is a hyper-agressive, second main-phase deck, with lots of board and graveyard interaction.

Pick at your opponent by relentlessly attacking. Even when you can't break through the defense, attack. (see Gravecrawler, Relentless Dead, Highborn Ghoul, Geralf's Messenger, and Plague Belcher).

Removal (Bone Splinters, and Tragic Slip) and creatures (Diregraf Colossus, Grave Crawler, Liliana, Death's Majesty) can be played in the carnal wake of your assault.

As you gnaw at your opponent's life total, use the static lifeloss mechanic through the synergy of any sac outlet (see Plague Belcher, Bone Splinters, Altar's Reap) + Geralf's Messenger; Forcing the opponent to lose 2 life through Messenger's Undying and ETB abilities. Repeat with Ghoulcaller's Chant.

The creature base has been selected to almost always include multiple 's. Gray Merchant of Asphodel's ETB Devotion ability is the main quick wincon. While Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx's Devotion can get Liliana, Death's Majesty out sooner.

Alternately, there's the "death-by-numbers" approach. Diregraf Colossus, Cryptbreaker, Liliana, Death's Majesty and Liliana, the Last Hope to keep those zombies shambling.

The deck is a recycling, putrid, amorphous mass that's hard to get around using simple removal and counter-control. Best of all, it's one of my favorite decks, because it's an absolute blast to play!

Playtest and let me know what you think!

The main engine in the deck is the creature base. Some creatures do things when they enter, others are extremely easy to cast from the hand or graveyard to keep trigger creatures doing their thing. The casting costs were carefully selected to be low but maximize the devotion wincon of Gray Merchant of Asphodel.

Cryptbreaker- A 1-drop utility creature to produce tokens. Synergies include any Zombie in your hand, especially Gravecrawler or before playing Diregraf Colossus.

Gravecrawler- A recastable neusance. It dies easily, and returns easily; but that's what makes it so beneficial in conjunction with Tragic Slip, Altar's Reap, Plague Belcher and Diregraf Colossus.

Relentless Dead- A favorite agressor of mine. With the ability to recycle not only itself, but other creatures, makes it indespensible in this deck. The menace ability makes it an ominous early game evasive aggressor.

Highborn Ghoul- not particularly synergistic, but evasive and attributes to the Devotion mechanic of Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and Gray Merchant of Asphodel.

Diregraf Colossus- The mid-late game token engine. Usually cast after combat, this bad boy gets permanent +1/+1 counters for each zombie in your GY. Its second ability makes this a super efficient combo with Gravecrawler; generating tokens at a persistent and annoying pace.

Geralf's Messenger- Part of the, life-stealing wincon in the deck. The undying ability of this creature coupled with it's stronger-than-your-average-zombie power, makes this a must have switch-hitter and utility creature with cards like Altar's Reap, Bone Splinters and Plague Belcher.

Death Baron- Tribal pump and board-wide deathtouch. For 3, this guy is a great step toward winning the game.

Liliana, Death's Majesty- This Lili is a turbo boost for late game. Spitting Zombies and reanimating from your GY, is her main deal; but, should the game go long her final ability is a boardwipe that should leave you the victor.

Liliana, the Last Hope- Mostly, graveyard feed and token generation. Her +1 ability, makes for a decent removal when coupled with Tragic Slip.

While zombies are persistent, they obviously aren't very tough. Larger creatures and flying opponents are very troublesome for this deck, which is why the bulk of the noncreature spells and most of the sideboard are hard removal of even the largest and most troublesome of creatures.

Zombie Infestation- All game zombie production. Best with Gravecrawler and any land draw after having 5 + Nyx on the board.

Altar's Reap- Cheap spells often burn out a hand in the first few rounds, this card allows you to draw, in black, without losing life, and is often beneficial with cards to sac like Geralf's Messenger, Gravecrawler and Relentless Dead.

Bone Splinters- Indiscriminate killing power, as long as you have a creature to sac.

Tragic Slip- Gets around nearly all huge indestructible creatures (ie: Eldrazi) and has become one of my personal favorite one-cost removal spells.

Ghoulcaller's Chant- Need a zombie or two? Spend just and get up to two creatures back from your graveyard to your hand to beat your opponent over the head with. Works well with Zombie Infestation or Diregraf Colossus on the board. It's also useful for getting back Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Geralf's Messenger for more abuse of their abilities.

Ordered my Plague Belchers, because it's clearly an improvement in the deck. No point in testing v 2.0 if this v is better.
