Sideboard

Been playing merfolks in standard since ixalan came out and this is the last iteration of the deck i'm testing. The deck plays similar to our earlier lists, being capable of either aggroing out our opponents or stalling the game long enough with Deeproot Waters to drop an often game-winning Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca.

The latest addition to our arsenal is Merfolk Trickster and it is a welcome one at that, allowing us to stop attackers from destroying us, removing annoying abilities from the field (like Hazoret, the fervent's indestructible or Rekindling Phoenix's flying and pseudo-recursiveness)) allowing for favourable blocks, or as a combat trick when you have Deeproot Elite + Deeproot Waters out to give a couple counters swinging combat math in your favour.

The land count is quite low, but the deck can sustain it thanks to explore and draw from our fishes, allowing us to quite reliably drop a turn 3 waters.

Unsummon and Spell Pierce are pretty self explainatory allowing us to play a tempo oriented game one; in the side we aim to slow the game down a bit against control with our counterspells, putting Deathgorge Scavenger and Aethersphere Harvester in aggro decks. When sideboarding agains U/W decks you should not totally neglect Essence Scatter since the FOTM build brings in Lyra Dawnbringer from the side and countering a Torrential Gearhulk feels pretty good too.

Any advice is welcome and I am happy to reply to any questions about the deck, thank you for reading and good luck on the battlefields :)
