An attempt at casual budget Modern, this deck looks to lose life by the truckload and bring on a superpowered Death's Shadow to crush all! The deck can also kill itself turn 1 if it feels like it, and that's why I love it!
Death's Shadow is the beatstick of doom. Naturally, getting two out offers the best chance of success, so it is still the prime target for the searching spells even if one exists in your starting hand.
Spoils of the Vault and Plunge into Darkness are the engines that fuel the deck's power, giving me the card I need with a hefty (and helpful) life loss. Plunge into Darkness is more reliable, but Spoils of the Vault is both cheaper and funnier.
Street Wraith and Gitaxian Probe are the oil that draws the deck down, helps me lose life and, in the case of the probe, lets me check for threats to my Death's Shadow.
Duress can solve those threats, while Vendetta and Dismember can kill of blockers; Soul Spike can do this too, or it can finish a player off or spike my life up in a pinch.
