Hello! This is my current "Standard" format deck I will be running this season. It is Dimir/Mill with a nice side of control to boot, however, the deck isn't entirely just mill, there are actually quite a few win cons to this build and I will explain why I decided to use certain cards as well as show examples of how they all work together.
The first thing I would like to point out is that this is not entirely finished, still finding room for Thoughtseize as well as Read the Bones as they are both excellent cards! Moving on.
Win cons and card examples below!
Consuming Aberration - Big monster that gets more intense as the game persist, also a great mill engine within the deck.
Jace, Memory Adept - This guy doesn't really need a description, amazing card.
Thassa, God of the Sea - Scry 1 on upkeep, can give unblockable to creatures and a solid 5/5 for 3 CMC yes please.
Cyclonic Rift - Board wipe, much needed if you are getting swarmed by aggro. Overload cost nothing less.
Desecration Demon
- 6/6 for 4 CMC, with the chance to force enemies to remove creatures to keep him tapped. Purely amazing card.
Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver - Creature heavy decks will hate you for this card. Exile them, use them against them, win games, she is a total B$#@! to deal with. She wins games, that simple.
Far / Away
- Great removal and bounce. This card has many uses. I typically like to play the fuse cost and bounce a weenie to make them sac the fattie. I also play
Far
for the sake of bouncing something back that would possibly be killed from enemy removal.
Omenspeaker
- Scry 2 also has 3 toughness to chump block, for a T2 this card is perfect, nothing better than getting what you need when you need it.
Pilfered Plans - Main card draw source in the deck, may be replaced completely by Read the Bones but for now it stays, opponent mills 2 I draw 2 all in all great card.
Wall of Frost
+ Hover Barrier - These guys buy you time, and time is what you need for this style of play. They are 3 CMC for incredible toughness, flying and ground blockers.
Mind Grind - Late game finisher, can easily win games if the mana allows.
Breaking / Entering - Simple 2 CMC for 8 cards to the grave. Just something to pump up Consuming Aberration early.
Dissolve
+
Doom Blade
+ Psychic Strike + Essence Scatter - All great counter magic + removal and a touch of mill at instant speed. Dissolve even allows a quick scry 1.
Win cons!
Jace, Memory Adept - Can win games by himself if properly protected.
Consuming Aberration + Thassa, God of the Sea - Make the Aberration 20/20+ and tap 2 mana for unblockable, its game over.
Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver - Can easily swarm the field with lots of nice creatures to swing on opponents wearing them down.
There is the basic run down of the deck, I know it was kinda long but any new players out there should gain some knowledge about the playstyle! If anything else, it may give others ideas. Any suggestions are welcome within the structure of this deck. The deck started as something completely different but with the help of the community it has become something truly worthy of competitive play in my opinion, so big thanks to those of you who +1 the deck as well as gave input on card swaps! Thanks for looking!
