I like the cheap discard, since you can disrupt as early as turn 1, before they ever get to go: Swamp -> Thoughtseize -> Pay 2 Life -> Surgical Extraction

Added 3 Ghost Quarter to deal with non-basics. In modern you see lots of creature lands or shock lands, and you can use Ghost Quarter to put it in their graveyard, and then Extirpate or Surgical Extraction to remove them from the game. The Sunken Holloware only there for when I eventually add blue...

For creatures the Burglar Rat and Liliana's Specter are there for a cheap discard trigger/chump blocker. Shimian Specter is a natural fit, and Gonti, Lord of Luxury seemed like a perfect creature card for this deck, being a 2/3 death touch and I get to use one of their cards against them. Only running 2 of Gonti because he's Legendary.

Added Crux of Fate and Mutilate for board wiping... maybe Black Sun's Zenith might work better?
