This is a combination of two combo strategies.

The first is FAST MANA.

Surge node + Chalice/Cornucopia + mox opal = 4 mana on turn 2

Also, surging every turn nets you a free point of mana and helps you pull far ahead while keeping up counter magic.

So, what do you do with all that mana?

Teferi's puzzle box + notion thief is a soft lock combo. They empty their hand while you keep a full grip. What else does a control player want?

Finish them off with notion thief beats and a cyclonic rift overload during their upkeep.

Tezzeret functions as a tutor for puzzlebox as well as being his own toolbox for the entire deck. Also, he's an extra wincon with march of the machines action with a rift or tap command backup.

Sideboard plans. Against white, spellsnare deals with artifact hate like a boss. hurkyl's hoses affinity. thoughtseize beats storm, if notion thief doesn't already hose them. Zoo gets the extra rift and some elixir action. Twin gets the spellskites
