I like the effect of Kessig Cagebreakers, so I decided to build a deck around having creatures that do effects when they die get sacked to beef up other creatures, so that the graveyard gets populated enough to beef up Kessig Cagebreakers significantly. I like the idea of the creatures that I use to sack others for getting lasting bonuses instead of just until end of turn, and I like keeping everything relatively cheap so I don't mind sacking stuff as much when needed.
The deck should work like this:
- Mana-ramp, play small creatures, and use removal to stall opponent
- Play Kessig Cagebreakers
- Just before attacking, sack the small creatures to something.
- Attack with Kessig Cagebreakers
- Acquire Doge army
- ???
- Profit!
I'm wanting the most assistance with the sideboard, deck speed, and deciding whether to add other abilities such as life gain, more removal, or creature protection.
I'm a bit hesitant to add life gain as the deck shouldn't need to run enough turns for that to be necessary. I've also been considering swapping the Whip of Erebos out for something else because as nice as the lifelink would snowball with the token generation, it leaves me wondering whether I could better use something else in the slot.
On a similar note, I haven't really put any creature enchantments in the deck because the smaller critters will be sacked anyways to feed the larger ones, and cagebreakers might enjoy hexproof or something, but that's about it, considering it generates the tokens upon declaring attack, and not based on whether it hits or not. Plus, I'm running 4 of them, and have Jarad's Orders to be able to dig up another one from the deck relatively easily.
As for the Maybe board, I'm considering either having stuff like Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord, Ghoultree, and Svogthos, the Restless Tomb either in main deck or sideboard as additional win conditions, so that in the event of a heavy removal opponent, I can still just pull something else out that uses my graveyard for its power.
