Hi, this is an updated Waste Note themed deck for the upcoming rotation. Nice to see that Despise is getting reprinted as it provides a nice replacement for Duress that is cycling out.
Let me know what you think, this is meant to be budget so at the moment I don't have any Thoughtseize in there, but I am tempted to buy a couple.
Quick explanation:
Sorceries:
Despise - Obvious choice, gets pesky PWs and creatures out early, can reward with a card or 2/2 zombie. This can obviously be upgraded to Thoughtseize if you have them.
Mind Rot - Again, obvious. 2 cards, lots of bonuses for me.
Read the Bones - Helps dig for that Waste Not or Master of the Feast when struggling.
Tormented Thoughts - Basically turns into Mind Rot when using with a 2/2 zombie token. Or can discard the opponent's hand on turn 4 with a Master of the Feast.
Creatures:
Black Cat - Discard at random is annoying and gives me stuff, chump blocker.
Spiteful Returned - Adds some nice extra damage to Master of the Feast or any zombie token.
Master of the Feast - Best 3 drop going, and also draws the opponent more cards which works for ME as I can then force more discards.
Others:
Waste Not - The Engine
Liliana Vess - More discards. Tutoring can be vital for finding an extra Waste Not or another Master.
Whip of Erebos - Give all those zombie tokens lifelink! Also allows Master to be reused with Tormented Thoughts.
Murderous Cut - Nice new basic removal spell for mono-black. This can obviously be upgraded to Hero's Downfall if you have them.
Sideboard:
Typhoid Rats - Against monster decks.
Dark Betrayal - Against other black decks.
Sign in Blood - If other player isn't playing enough noncreature nonland spells to draw you more cards.
Obelisk of Urd - For the zombie tribal if you want to experiment.
