Before you can break out of prison, you must realize you are locked up.
DECK DESIGN: To Shank? or not to ....
Drag Me to Helvault is my
Heartless Summoning deck.
Heartless Summoning allows you to get a high mana cost creature into play early, which we then make copies of using our cheaper casting cost clones to quickly overwhelm an opponent.
SYNERGY: The Inmates
Prisoners of the Helvault include the under appreciated
Evil Twin, who we can use to duplicate either
Frost Titan or
Rune-Scarred Demon and create a cheap, yet powerful, army. In addition to his ability to clone our big creatures, he also can work well as removal if needed for problematic opponents creatures, such as
Elderscale Wurm. Just copy an opponent's creature, and the following turn
Evil Twin can remove the competition.
Frost Titan will lock down opposing forces, keeping creatures or mana tapped while adding pressure every turn.
Rune-Scarred Demon can be used to grab copies of itself or the one of our cloners to make a quick army of flyers.
Bloodgift Demon can help build card advantage, while adding to our aerial presence.
Massacre Wurm can wreck havoc on an opponents board presence, even more so when cloned a few times.
Nefarox, Overlord of Grixis serves as a trump card, removing pesky protection from black creatures.
Phyrexian Metamorph is our other clone card, and can be used in conjunction with the same targets as
Evil Twin.
Surviving the Helvault will require us to use all the tools at our disposal.
Despise &
Distress do a fine job of keeping an opponents prized cards from ever seeing the battlefield, as well as giving us some insight into their game plan, while
Doom Blade &
Vapor Snag can remove threats that make it to the table.
SIDEBOARD: Breaking down walls
Perilous Myr combines well with
Heartless Summoning and
Havengul Lich by allowing us to cast the myr from the grave for 1 mana, once it hits the battlefield and gets -1/-1 it returns to the graveyard, triggering it's damage ability. Rinse and repeat. The three cards combine to give an infinite use
Shock spell, more or less.
I build every deck under a $100 budget, to be affordable for most casual players. While this removes many of the higher priced and sought after cards from my potential pool, it also forces me to be creative and look into a wider scope of cards. Occasionally I have a deck that exceeds this amount, either due to price inflation over time, or getting a few lucky pulls in packs that I opted to keep, and in those rare cases, I will attempt to annotate replacement options that would bring the deck back in line with this budget.
FEEDBACK:
I'd be interested in some sideboard cards for this deck to help round it out, as well as any insight into the current deck. It's a super fun deck to play that often takes an opponent by surprise.
