Land (1)

Enchantment (1)

I got excited as soon as I seen vampires spoiled from battle for Zendikar. This is what my deck has evolved into since then. I've usually gotten top 3 out of all the tournaments I've been to for three months. Any input would be great. Thanks.

Here's what the ideal match looks like for this deck.

Opening hand: Expedition Envoy, Kalastria Healer, Oath of Gideon, Sorin, Solemn Visitor, Plains, Swamp, Caves of Koilos

T1: Plains, Envoy T2: Swamp, Healer T3: Caves, Oath T4: Land, Sorin T5: Gideon, Ultimate Sorin

Creatures

  1. Expedition Envoy This is the best and only turn 1 play. Getting that 2 damage going early helps, but in mid to late game I usually hold these until I get some Kalastria Healer out to trigger rally drain.

  2. Kalastria Healer The backbone of this deck. A game is playable without this guy, but goes much easier the more often he gets played. I never attack or block with these unless I can ensure their survival, or I have a March from the Tomb up my sleeve. Captain's Claws and Oath of Gideon are much more effective with a few of these out.

  3. Zulaport Cutthroat The other backbone of this deck. These will ensure I get something out of my creatures dying as long as they hit the graveyard. (I hate you Anafenza, the Foremost!) A few of these out and your opponents board wipe will backfire miserably. They tend to get targeted fairly often with instant speed removal.

  4. Serene Steward A very good support card in this deck. In early game, my mana is usually tapped to play as many allies as possible, but sometimes it's better to hold a few and pump allies with her ability. I find that Drana's Emissary works very well with this card. Plus a 2/2 that triggers rally drain isn't bad either.

  5. Drana's Emissary Most opponents underestimate this nice winged angel of death. She flies over most enemies, and slowly drains the opponent. If I have her and Drana, Liberator of Malakir on turn 3, I'll usually play her depending on the opponents deck. She'll usually decoy to soak up removal so I can play Drana, Liberator of Malakir safely. Otherwise, 2 damage in the air every turn plus 1 during upkeep adds up. (Don't forget the upkeep triggers, I lost a game doing just that!)

  6. Drana, Liberator of Malakir The star of the deck. When she resolves, it usually means a much quicker beatdown for your opponent. She is often dealt with before she can attack, or before she deals damage if they have instant speed removal. The first strike does make her a good blocker, but the life gain in this deck should leave you with no doubt but to attack every turn. Keep in mind that first strike means if she deals damage to an opponent during first strike damage phase, your other attacking creatures get the +1/+1 counters before they deal damage. This is why giving your creatures first strike with Kor Bladewhirl is a bad idea as it works counterproductive to this ability.

Planeswalkers

  1. Gideon, Ally of Zendikar There's a reason why he's in just about any deck that's playing white. In this deck, he really shines as a versatile threat. He stabilizes the board with tokens if you need them, or buffs the team if they're overmatched. In other situations, a 5/5 getting through or killing most things in the way is valuable. I have made quite a few winning plays with this card.

  2. Sorin, Solemn Visitor Though he rotates out very shortly, he has made just as many game winning plays as Gideon with his +1 ability. Lifelink fits very well in this deck, and gives me an even bigger buffer in case I run low on cards or creatures. Getting his ultimate isn't too difficult, and can cripple an opponent as early as the fifth turn.

  3. Ob Nixilis Reignited A pretty strong card that allows for repeated late game removal, or just an extra card which helps in late game as well. The life loss is not a problem, and if this guy's goes unchecked for too long, it gets ugly fast.

Will be updating this deck in a few weeks for SOI, but I have an idea for Mardu Vampires so maybe I'll try that instead.
