EDH The Locust God: Swarm of Locusts

The goal of this deck is to draw cards often in order to trigger the ability of The Locust God and get tons of locust tokens. Cards such as Teferi's Puzzle Box and Mindmoil will help you get lots of draw triggers at once. Alhammarret's Archive draws you tons of cards when combined with other draw effects (but be careful not to mill yourself with Mindmoil or Arjun, the Shifting Flame, unless you can win with Laboratory Maniac). When you have lots of locusts out, Bident of Thassa and Coastal Piracy will help you draw even more cards, and get even more locusts.

You can win by attacking your opponents with tons of locusts, but I tend to use combos to win the game. When you get tons of locusts out, Impact Tremors will deal tons of damage to opponents. And draw triggers help other cards too, including Chasm Skulker, Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind, and Psychosis Crawler. If you can get tons of cards in your hand, Inner Fire can generate tons of mana, possibly enough to help you win.

Custom Categories

  • Land: All lands.
  • Ramp: Non-land cards that either create mana or help cast things faster.
  • Draw: Put more cards into your hand; one-time effects.
  • DrawPermanent: Put more cards into your hand; can occur multiple times, as these are all permanents.
  • Removal: Remove permanents from the battlefield.
  • Counterspell: Counter spells on the stack.
  • Wheel: Draw several cards at once, but get rid of your current hand.
  • Retrieval: Re-cast cards from your graveyard.
  • WinCon: The important cards that will enable you to win the game.

Combos

There's one infinite combo in this deck:

Cards: Ashnod's Altar + Skullclamp + The Locust God

Details: With all cards on the field, get to a point where you have at least two 1/1's on the field (either through The Locust God or Chasm Skulker, if you had the latter earlier). Sacrifice one 1/1 to Ashnod's Altar, then use one of the newly-generated mana to equip Skullclamp to the other 1/1. This will destroy it, drawing you two cards and getting two more 1/1's off of The Locust God. Repeat until you draw as many cards as you want. Since you net 1 mana on each iteration, you can also just use that mana to equip Skullclamp instead of sacrificing another 1/1 to Ashnod's Altar, but then you will (probably) have to sacrifice on the next iteration to have mana to continue. Also note: since you draw 2 at a time, be careful not to mill yourself if you get down to exactly one card.

Result: lots of colorless mana, lots of 1/1 locusts, draw your entire deck (or close to the whole deck)
